Red Rabbit Report post Posted July 7, 2009 NRS- A summer job in the WM would be great. What did you do? Siwash- the winner in our senior class turned in a 199 for 20 targets on Sunday's round. On Saturday, the high in our group of 5 was 162. Do you have any more pics from the course? ehunt- You're a brave man to take your dogs up on the chair. My dog probably would have bailed off. RR I worked on a FS fire crew that lived in one of the cabins on the west side of Greens Peak in the summer of '78. cmc Report post Posted July 8, 2009 A group of us from Tucson made it out to wreck some arrows and get lost in the woods trying to practice up for our elk tags. Loved the courses they were set up really well - just didn't care for the afternoon storms up on the mountain. I have to say I love my Cabalas Dry Plus gear! I learned two things.... my bow shoots low right in a hard nasty rain storm.... and Easton Full Metal Jackets are very expensive - that means never let anyone shooting carbons pull you FMJ's - $11 down the drain as a buddy bent one up just pulling it from a target. Next, never shoot first. I shot the standing black bear on course 1 first. I tagged him just outside the 12 ring for a 10 and watched as the target fell over and bent up #2 arrow... Down $22 for the shoot and it's only been two rounds. Needless to say I was down $44 dollars at the end of the shoot just because my FMJ's didn't hold up like my old carbons did. I call Easton Full Metal Jacets... One hit wonders - cuz after anything other than foam they are trash. They my be bullet tough to shoot animals with but sure not on a 3D course between soft dirt after a miss use of a sight pins and friends that treat their arrows like a 1971 Plymouth Furry I'll be using some carbons on 3D's from here on out. Over all a great time up on the mountain and fun with friends. It was interesting to see all the unprepared folks up there when the rains came. Az Hunter Report post Posted July 9, 2009 Hey guys, I am new to the site but have been checking it out for a while. I bought a Camera from Amanda at the outdoor expo. ANYWAYS, I was at the shoot also. What a stinking blast! I never knew 3d's could be so challenging. I haven't done one in over 15 years back when I was a kid. I have done 4 so far this year, the 2 Willard springs shoots, the one the Superior Bowhunters put on at Oak Flats, and of course the Sunrise shoot. I am amazed at how much of a better shooter I am after doing these shoots. It's definitely a different animal (so to speak) than the range. My confidence is a lot higher now and I am getting better at judging distance which I struggle the most at. I spoiled myself with a range finder. I was pretty proud of myself. I shoot all 4 courses using only one arrow. I had plenty with me as backups but shot with the same arrow all weekend. I did miss once out of the 60 targets but the arrow lived through the wet stump shot. I now how a new lucky hunting arrow! I didn't have the best scores and only had 2 12 ring shots but I did well overall in my mind. My proudest moment was hitting the 12 ring dead center on my last animal of the weekend. It was that Lion at 50 yards at the end of course 1. I do believe it's the same one Siwash posted a picture of earlier. The other 12 ring shot was a pig at 40 yards (attached). It was a cool shot, the three of us had 2 12's and a close 10! I had to take a picture of that one with my phone, you don't see that every day. Great site!
