Colorado Muleys

Recommended Posts

This buck was taken in 2000 in unit 10. I scouted and hunted for this buck, as my buddy had found the shed on the left in '99. The buck was known by the Rangely locals who were pretty tight-lipped. He was whacked on the winter range along the highway on the last day of the season. Scores 244" B & C.

The muley scores 202. Taken in unit 21 in 1997. The hunter was from WA state and spotted this buck in '95. He had to skip '96 to build a preference point. He drew in '97 and looked for the same buck in the same patch of oakbrush. And there he was..................hint, hint!

I understand this buck was taken in the Basalt area in the 1940's. I wonder if his rack is still around. What a monster! Easily scores 220"+ on the frame.

Those are great pics. A few years ago we hunted unit 21 because we had friends that would let us stay in there home in Rangely, (did not have to draw). Saw some good bucks there but couldn't make it happen. Wonderful area, thanks for the pics, I can't wait to back up there. (after dental school is over i guess)

Rangley is quite the town. I remember seeing more antelope bucks on the highway in the middle of town then people. (almost like lamont, wy)

I saw a awesom 9x7 in september in Trinidad. I think it was poached. I reported it to the Colorado dept of wildlife, but never heard anymore about it. It had to have a 24-26 inch spread and in velvet.

Here are some pics from my latest Colorado hunt in '03. Do you guys ever run into these conditions in southern AZ, LOL? Do you guys even know what tire chains are?

Is this NW Colorado or the moon?

Would you believe I camped here for 10 days all by my lonesome and had a blast? Only talked to a few hunters the whole time. Had chains on for 8 days! My faithful Ford PowerStroke was worth it's weight in gold on this trip. My biggest problem was............... my case of Mtn Dew and the 6-gal water jug in the pic froze solid the first night, LOL.

Here is a buck I whacked 15 years ago in SW Colorado. Scores 175ish with heavy bases. Yep, that's me there.
