Jcubed Report post Posted June 16, 2009 Went up to Wet Beaver Creek this weekend with my mom, dad, and girlfriend. Made the hike up the canyon and was pleasantly surprised at the beauty of the canyon. I never knew that the creek was there until I saw it on a game and fish map and decided to check it out. To make a long story short did a little fishing in one of the pools. I had three solid strikes but only set the hook once and caught a really nice twelve or thirteen inch rainbow. It was a lot of fun to get out, do some hiking, and spend the day with the family. On a side not...my dad and I got the itch to go fishing again and we were told to go to West Clear Creek. The gentleman said to just park along the highway (260 I believe) and hike down into the canyon and fish. Is West Clear Creek a good place to go fishing? Is his advice on where to access the Creek correct? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Jcubed So, my dad and I hiked in and had a great day fishing. In all I probably caught and released about 70 fish, mostly smallmouth, and that's a conservative estimate. I took some pictures of the fish and even saw about 7-9 bighorn ewes and kids at one of our fishing holes. Needless to say it was quite the experience to see them when we weren't even expecting it. Quite a thrill. As the day wore on our slogan for the trip became "All day" because we were catching so many fish. I'm still excited thinking about it! My dad and I still can't fathom why this isn't one of the most talked about fisheries in the state. It's late but I'll try and post some pictures when I figure out how to get them off my camera. I caught one really nice wild rainbow that made our day. Jcubed
Red Rabbit Report post Posted June 16, 2009 Don't know about hiking down from 260. Might be better to hike up from Bull Pen at the mouth. Here is a pic showing the south rim of WCC from below Bull Pen. You could hike down into WCC on a trail near Tramway on the north side. As a HS kid, I hiked down a side canyon off 87 and did not find trout till below some springs. I do not know if G&F still stocks the upper canyon. It makes for a nice hike down through the canyon with a raft to float some pools aver a few days. Did you catch any smallmouth in Wet Beaver? RR
Jcubed Report post Posted June 16, 2009 I didn't catch any smallmouth but they were there. I could see them in the water. The fish were really spooked due to all the swimmers all weekend I think (I was up sunday late afternoon and evening). My dad and I are wanting to go fishing on Thursday and are just looking for info on how to access this canyon. Thank for the reply! Jcubed
Elkaddict Report post Posted June 17, 2009 Many years ago I regularly fished the Bull Pen Ranch area. You take the dirt road off the 260 that goes to cedar flats, beaver creek, etc. A couple of miles in you take the Bull Pen road to the end. This is where they used to stock it, I think they still do. From here you can hike upstream as far as you want. I also hiked in off the cedar flats road, you need to take a look at some topo maps it's not a place you can bail off anywhere and get down. Wherever you go it's a very, very neat place. Didn't see any in there back then, as rough as it is I can't imagine it gets fished much. Off the 260 up around Tule Butte and Caloway there are a couple of trails that will get you down, there again check the maps to see the exact start. Good Luck. A couple people of my buddies whet up there last weekend and caught there limit of rainbows, just using spinners and spoons (I think gold). They also caught a couple largemouth and some bluegil. I was fishing in the first pool u get to last year and caught a nice 13" rainbow on a worm first cast! My best advice that has worked for me and my friends is if it's not hot in one pool keep moving to different areas until u find the hot spot since some of the pools might only hold a few fish but there are some nice veiws and great fishing in that canyon if you liked wet beaver creek you'll love clear creek
