NRS Report post Posted June 15, 2009 It is the Elk Horn fire. If you look at the Tucson satellite photo on the Tucson weather service page, you can see the smoke coming right into town. They are mainly letting it do its thing in the mountains and clean out the old dead material and do not think it will be contained until next weekend. yumabowhunter Report post Posted June 16, 2009 Darn! I better get down there, that might be my secret farm back in the mountains. Let me know if there is run on local munchies.
NRS Report post Posted June 16, 2009 Down there it is not the farms that give the locals the munchies, it is the burlap wrapped bales that you need to worry about burning up
Red Rabbit Report post Posted June 16, 2009 Tried to find a fire perimeter map, but whooda thunk they'd report/post that info on the net Best I could find with pic/video to give idea of location. http://www.azstarnet.com/sn/metro/297149.php
Kilimanjaro Report post Posted June 16, 2009 I was out there last night and that thing has GROWN!! It was buring from the Elkhorn ranch area all the way down to milepost 12.. Had moved quite a distance out into the flats in the brown canyon as well.. Behind Mildred, it looked like it was on the rez boundary, if not already crossed over. It was quite impressive to see that much country burning all at once.
Red Rabbit Report post Posted June 16, 2009 You mean that that nasty catclaw (not you Dennis ) in Brown Canyon may have been eradicated for the short term?
NRS Report post Posted June 17, 2009 You mean that that nasty catclaw (not you Dennis ) in Brown Canyon may have been eradicated for the short term? Talked to one of the guys from the office that was sown there Sunday, and Brown Canyon did get burned on sides of the canyon, should be easier to get around in there for a few years anyway.
