chrismp51 Report post Posted June 14, 2009 Just wondering if any of you load rifle ammo on a progressive press? I normally load all rifle ammo on a single stage, but for the AR wanted something a little faster.
GameHauler Report post Posted June 14, 2009 I understand your desire to wanting to speed things up for the AR but, I had a progressive I got from my neighbor to try out and gave it back. I like to feel each stage of loading to help eliminate any potential problem. I do have 3 single stage presses set up and once everything is dialed in things go pretty quick but even with one press once you have the dies set it only takes a minute to unscrew one and screw in the next one. chrismp51 Report post Posted June 14, 2009 I was concerned with the case preperation, so I set the 550 up for powder and bullet seating. I am depriming, sizing on the sigle stage, it goes pretty quck that way. I was really surprised how accurate the dillon is with the powder.
JLG Report post Posted June 14, 2009 Chrismp51, I do the same thing you do when loading rifle rounds. Resize, deprime and trim if needed on a single stage press. Than prime, drop powder and seat the bullet on my progressive. It goes pretty fast at that point, but getting there takes some time. I usually load a 1000 rounds of 223 at a time, so the prepare takes a while, Take Care, JLG.
