Eastern whitetails in AZ?

Recommended Posts

Anybody ever heard of this? My brother-in-law said during the hunter safety class for his son the instructor said there are a few eastern whitetails in AZ. I have never seen or heard of anyone seeing any. One time out by Williams, I think off Devil Dog road (unit 10) a buddy and I hiked up to the top of a hill that was kind of all by itself. Near the top we spooked some whitetail deer, I figured they were coues deer but we really didn't get a good look. We just saw 3 tails dissappear over the hill. Mostly we were both really surprised to see whitetails out there. We both looked at each other and said "those were whitetails weren't they?" Anybody ever see coues deer out that way?

I think that instructor needs to go to school

Haha yeah I am having trouble swallowing it myself. Hence the post. But I figured this would be the best site to post on because the members here should actually be able to tell the difference between deer species.

Only coues here. I used to archery hunt around Williams and off DD rd way back in the early 90's, there were some big WT around back then, at least in unit 8.

They could put our Mullies to shame.

Sure glad I was young and strong when

I was dragging them suckers out back in PA

I have never heard of Eastern in AZ as-well. I have heard of muleys with racks that look just like whitetail racks. Mule deer body just with a whitetail rack. I know they have some eastern whitetail around New Mexico.

And to think this guy is trying to teach people about hunter safety and he is putting out this kind of info!

That was hilarious, here I was thinking if I drew 13B I'd only be thinking about mulies, nice to know it's one of the top 10 whitetail units in AZ according to this dude. I want to look at his top 10 elk units now, oh let me guess his #1 unit for elk is 36B

Could be a hybrid coues and muley, makes a big bodied coues and a big rack.
