Owls vs. Mice video

Recommended Posts

Hey All,

Here is my latest installment of the Owls vs. Mice videos that I have made. The video was taken during field work in Aravaipa and the Pinal mtns. Then I use a software program to slow it down so you can see more detail off the flights, and of course I added some music.

The vocals in the second music piece are saying "Darkness is Coming", seemed appropriate especially for the mice meeting their destiny.

Very cool Amanda! Thats some amazing video you caught! Talk about the ultimate predator. Did you release the mice or were you just in the right place at the right time?

They are great predators! It's truly amazing to see them turn from a sleepy owl into a absolutely focused predator when I put a mouse out.

Mice are provided by me. It's part of a formal survey protocol (for which federal and state permits are required) that makes it far more efficient to locate the nest and young.

Glad you guys enjoyed it. It's fun to make. It all happens so fast in the field that it's neat to be able to see it slowed down so you can see more of what's happening.

Mexican Spotted Owls - very neat video! I'll bet it looks even better in full resolution.

Are your owls fledged yet?

The babies are out of the nest, but can't really fly yet.

neat to see how much the owl manipulates his body (while in flight) to manuever through the thick foilage and still be so precise and successful.
