AZ G&F being sude over capture & tranq of Macho B

Recommended Posts

"""Theoretically speaking...If a buddy and I were in an argument about a specific coues deer feeding pattern and in an attempt to further our knowledge regarding this issue, we acccidentally trapped a 145 inch coues in the process... the Game and Fish would revoke our licenses and a hefty 20k fine would insue."""" """"""Speaking from experience, G&F does not generally excuse accidents in the course of law enforcement. If you are in violation, regardless of your intentions, you will likely be cited and prosecuted just as if you had set out to willfully break the law. I don't see any reason that the same standards should not be applied to them as well. """""""

Those two comments are on the money. I hope they get sued and they cant afford to pay rick. ha

If a houndsman trees a Jaguar, they are to back off immediatly upon finding out it is indeed a Jaguar.

Bottom Line the Salt Ban was put into motion to preserve wildlife and promote animal health and numbers in herds as a whole. Keeping the health and well being for wildlife in sight. But ANY anesthesia comes with great risks and to me the risk of harming an ENDANGERED species does not out weigh the Pros. That big cat was in its golden years and soon to expire, not exactly the most resilient.

Its not a fact of being an expert but having an opinion, and I think from a hunters stand point to be dissappoointed by these events shows that you genuinely care for the well being of wildlife as well as the game and fish.. IMO bad call! leave geriatric endangered species be, and just keep tabs on em and when they expire poke and pull em all u want!

Did I just overstate my case?

Ultramag, I'm unsure as to how G&F dropped the ball. The apparatus that caught Macho B was meant for Mountain Lion, which was a totally legitimate use of procedure and equipment. There were approved measures in place should a jaguar ever be caught, though the chances were slim. They couldn't have walked up the the jaguar saying "Here kitty kitty kitty, let me take that off of you....don't bite me, i'm your friend!".

.

If you believe the capture was unintentional, then you are really gullible. I don't believe that they violated any federal laws, but I think there was some sneaky stuff going on and probably some permits that needed to be secured first. I believe that in the end you will find that there were people making false statements in an official capacity and they will lose their jobs.

I think it has already been substantiated that their "volunteers" obtained jaguar urine and feces which were no doubt used to lure a jaguar. It is very unfortunate that this happened and it will remain a big black eye in wildlife biology in AZ for years to come. This ranks right up there with the G&F dept killing that crow they took away from the kid in Apache Junction a number of years ago. It takes a whole lot of good things and attaboys to make up for one dumb thing like this!
