tjhunt2 Report post Posted May 25, 2009 Here is my problem. My wife finally said she was taking me on a much needed vacation for her to San Francisco. Why there I do not know but the trip has been booked and there isn't anyway out of it. She seems to think I spend way to much time up under the rim country and fishing around here and it's time for a real vacation without all that. I'm not going to begin to figure that one out but I need some help on this one. I talked her in to doing a day trip out fishing for the day while we are there and found several charters in the bay area but to many to decide from. I don't care what kind of fish but there is no way I'm walking around San Francisco for 8 days without wetting a line in that water. Has anyone experienced or knows someone you have fished with that you would recommend? She has gone as far as to say there will be know camo taken on this trip. Yeh right! She has already started and we haven't even got there yet. Much needed prayers will greatly be appreciated. TJ
kphunter Report post Posted May 25, 2009 When I lived in the Bay Area, I used to fish the bay with my neighbor for stripers. We used live shiners caught in the bay. Also did a few trips for sturgeon in the Carquinez Straits area, and a deep sea fishing trip near the Farallon islands for rock cod, shark, and lingcod. Check out this link for the Fish Sniffer: http://www.fishsniffer.com/ It's a good site with lots of info on bay area and northern california fishing. I'm sure you'll hook up with someone running a charter or you'll be pointed in the right direction. Good luck!
Traveler Report post Posted May 25, 2009 Good advise from kp Striper or shark is probably the best bet out of SF. I would highly recommend you get out of city for a day by renting a car and going up to Point Reyes Seashore. http://www.nps.gov/pore/ They have a lot of Tule Elk on the peninsula around Tomales bay. There are some beaches on the point that require a very short hike. They have a nice visitors center with lots of wildlife related exhibits. You will also see lots of Blacktail deer if you drive out to the light house. There is also a nice hike to MT Wittenburg where could say is a very romantic spot for a picnic or to watch the sunset (and observe deer). You can camoflage this as a trip to see the redwoods, lighthouse and beaches with a romantic picnic. You can stop at Muir Woods on the way(Go Early) up there. This was my favorite all day date itinerary when I lived out there. Another thing to do when you are sick of the city is to rent a bike and go across the golden gate. Bring a jacket. If the fog rolls in you can freeze quickly.

kphunter Report post Posted May 26, 2009 Delta's a fantastic fishery. You can catch largemouth bass, striped bass, catfish, and a host of other freshwater species. Hard to go wrong with any of these choices, just depends on how far you want to drive to get to your fishing destination.
Coues Sniper Report post Posted May 27, 2009 +1 on the Delta. Great bass fishing. Bring some black buzzbaits - trust me. Buddy of mine was fishing there a few years back and hooked into a 48lb striper while flipping . Try sticking a fresh one of those with about 15' of line out... COOSEFAN Report post Posted May 29, 2009 Hey TJ, A friend of mine has gone several times with an outfit out of San Francisco and he talks very highly of the operation.
