badred6 Report post Posted June 2, 2009 I have been thinking about getting one. But since I have yet to handle one, i dont know how durable they are. What are they made out of?
The Claw Report post Posted June 2, 2009 Redrabbit did some testing with The Claw and has since purchased one (I hope you don't mind me saying that Redrabbit). Maybe he, or others who have one, could describe and testify to the quality of it's manufacturing. All I will say is it carries a lifetime warranty but it will last yours and your kid's lifetime. It is CNC machined aluminum and nothing really to break on it.
Red Rabbit Report post Posted June 2, 2009 Cade, No problem mentioning my name. (I'm sure it has been used by others in worse contexts. ) The Gun Claw does appear to have very good construction with machined and anodized aluminum sides and cam levers. The threaded rods for the locking cams appear to be stainless steel. I got an extra tripod head plate with the 701HDV head so I can epoxy the plate directly to the Claw. I have removed the 2 rubber strips on the head plate, as I found that they allow some vertical wiggle (I noted this in my review). I also noticed the screw of the plate may not offer sufficient locking and the Claw may start to twist/rotate on the plate during use. Rather than epoxy to prevent rotation on the plate, one might drill a small hole in the bottom of the Claw to match the pin of the 701 plate. As a side note, people getting the Manfrotto 501/701HDV may also need to get the thread adapter bushing, as the thread size on the Manfrotto tripod heads may not be the same as the threaded post on the tripod (like on my Velbons). Jim White has some. These might be a good addition to your Gun Claw web-store. The Claw with the extra plate weighs right at 1 lb. My Harris bipod weighs 1 lb 4oz and affects the rifle balance. Prairie dog "season " opens June 16, so the new GunClaw will get a good workout soon I should be able to give a good field evaluation then. Doug~RR
bobbyo Report post Posted June 2, 2009 Red Rabbit. I predict murder. Pure murder. The claw is well made with good materials it will last a long time if taken care of. As far as price. I'm with Casey on this. It could be your $80 bipod, Your $80 bench rest for sighting in weapons. Heck you could use it to clean and make repairs on your rifle. It is a Gun vise. To Claw guys I did not mean to insinuate that you were making unethical equipment. It is a quality product that does what you say it will do. My comments were really to myself. I want to make sure that my kids know how to shoot a rifle properly. Heck I want them to experience missing a few times. I think if you make it too easy for this video game generation they will not appreciate success. Having failures in pursuit of your goals makes success sweeter. Gee I am describing every tag I ever had. As far as my shooting goes it really depends on the situation. At the range my nickname is "flinchy", so you can see I will be using the claw there. I am on a pretty good hot streak on live animals though, if we forget about the 15 shots I took at a 6 buck bachelor group in 2005. The first ten I was trying to hit them. The last five I was just trying to scare them because they didn't even lift their heads from feeding. Talk about being disrespected! Bob
The Claw Report post Posted June 2, 2009 Bob, I knew what your were intending by you remarks when you made them (thanks for them by the way), I was just clarifying for those who have not shot The Claw that it certainly does not take away skillful operator use. Now, regarding your shooting extravaganza in 2005, feel free not to post those remarks if you experience that again using The Claw......LOL! JK, I am sure we all have one of those times to share! At least I have some friends who have
Red Rabbit Report post Posted June 2, 2009 I can see the Claw almost being a Godsend for those susceptible to buck fever. Sure wish I had it many years ago in unit 29 when the affliction caused me to repeatedly miss a 115 typical until the magazine was empty. Even some cross-sticks were of no added use. I think they closed that canyon to mine for lead after that season. RR
Kilimanjaro Report post Posted June 2, 2009 I can see the Claw almost being a Godsend for those susceptible to buck fever. And that's where I come into this picture as a sworn customer of The Claw!!! I admit it, whan I see or get the opportunity at something (ANY species) of outsized proportions, I get BUCK FEVER.. I hate it, but at the same time, I love it!! stanley Report post Posted June 2, 2009 I want one!!! Uh, I mean; I NEED one!!!! Buck fever is my middle name! Thanks much for the posts/reviews/info all! I'm the king of 'gitters' when it comes to shooting. I'm pretty darn good with a shotgun bird shooting 'off-hand', but when it comes to relaxing, concentrating, and holding steady, I'm a wreck! As soon as I'm sure I have tuition covered for the kids this fall, I'll be putting some of my extra cash towards this. I can, will, and do hunt; I just can't hold as steady as I would like to. I suspect this might be a 'tool' that will help me.... Again, thanks for the reviews all! S.
cramerhunts Report post Posted June 3, 2009 I've never really thought too much about my ability to settle down and pick my spot and then follow through with the shot.... until I missed a large buck in Mexico last year repeatedly! After the first shot buck fever set in bad and I was all over the place and having a hard time keeping the moving buck in the scope so ever since then I've been on the fence over getting the claw. Once I saw the new price I just couldn't resist so I placed my order today. I can't wait to get to shooting off of it and hopefully I won't miss on the big one this year! Thanks Cade for giving me the push off the fence with the new lower price. Phil

GameHauler Report post Posted June 8, 2009 Because the guys with the CLAW are not the ones who started the topic. They just gave there input. You are correct But they sure have gotten allot of pump for nothing out of pocket. I would hope they would make a contribution to the site or maybe donate a few towards the upcoming Coues contest That would be a really great way for them to get a few more out there so more people would see what they have to offer and a write off as well. 308Nut Report post Posted June 8, 2009 I could see where "the claw" and a finely tuned 5 oz. Jewell trigger would be the cats meow for small targets (coues) at typical coues ranges (400+ yards). I will be looking into this device as a bipod alternative.
Red Rabbit Report post Posted June 8, 2009 Dano, If you do a search, you may find that interest in the Claw started with posts from a few hunters that found and reported on a good product. Amanda secured a test sample at the end of last year to see if she would carry it in her webstore. I received the copy to test and reported my findings, both good and bad, and passed suggestions to the owner. If we members find a worthwhile product or service, I hope that we can pass on the news, whether that product is a sponsor or not. Likewise if we find something not worthy, I hope we can respectfully pass on our valid findings. HUnters helping hunters without self-interest is a good thing. The Claw Report post Posted June 8, 2009 I am a hunting fan just like you guys (it is my passion). I visit the site occasionally just like you to chat, read stories, and look at pics to get my mind off of the stresses of the day. When I respond to posts (like mentioned that were started by hunters) regarding The Claw I try to be mindful and respectful of the advertising thing. This is why I have not listed any of our contact or website info. I respect what Amanda is doing and do not want to do anything to take advantage of what she has created. But like redrabbit says I can't do anything about others talking about product. However, This is why I mentioned that site sponsors were carrying The Claws, like Jim White and The Outdoorsman's, to drive business their way. Also, so you know it was Amanda who approached me at a show and asked if I would donate a Claw to the ADA banquet.......We have donated two. Turns out I will not be able to make it to the Banquet but my partner Jay should be. I hope a bunch of you are able to attend and have a great evening.
