mexico hunting

Interested in hunting Mexico but dont know were to start. Can this be a self guided hunt? Any advice would be great, Thanks, Jake

Corkin, its pretty hard to do a Do it Yourself type hunt in Mexico. It can be done but you will need to have contacts in Mexico to get your paperwork done etc......You can pretty much guide yourself if you tell the outfitter that you dont need a guide, but just a ranch hand to accompany you but your best bet is to just let an outfitter handle the hunt, paperwork etc.....you should expect hunts from $3,500.00 to $4,500.00 for coues from most outfitters.........be careful and interview the outfitters and make sure they have references......some ranches have been overhunted and the rates seem like a bargain........on this website there are some good outfitters.....check them out, make a few calls and dont wait too long because some are already booked for 2005.............best of success..........Allen Taylor.......

What unit did you hunt this year. I ran across a guy in 31 with the last name Taylor. He was packin' in alone. Wouldn't happen to be you would it.

A self guided hunt in Mexico can be done but there are rules that should be followed. #1 to have a gun in Mexico you should have a U.S. outfitter with a Mexican outfitter handle the paperwork for you or you could get in touch with a Mexican outfitter and he will do it if you get the tag from him. #2 You need to find an outfitter in Mexico with the proper landowner tags. Some guys have tags that don't go to the ranches they want you to hunt and you could get in a ton of trouble. I have seen tags from $200-$2500. #3 You need to check the ranches yourself or have a reputable contact in Mexico. There are many people selling tags to ranches that have little or no deer. We have scouted ranches that the tags were cheap on and it is not worth it. #4 You will need the license to hunt in Mexico from a Mexican outfitter. I do this every year and it is a ton of work and by the time you take in food and gear you could have went on a guided hunt. There are a few rules and procesures you need to follw when taking a rifle into Mexico and bringing a cape, antlers and meat out of Mexico, and if you don't follow them to the T you could wind up in a lot of trouble. The only benefit is you may be able to go for extended hunting time and you could go down more than once if you set it up right. It is beneficial if you are bowhunting and rifle hunting so you can hunt prerut and rut. It is also nice to go in early and set up blinds if you are bowhunting.

It would be better to go with a group of friends or post on the site that you would like to go down with others that already do this until you are ready to tackle it by yourself.
