Mount it or Not Mount it

Recommended Posts

Heres the deal. I shot a 345 bull that I did a euro on. I have the cape dry tanned sitting here at home. I have a taxidermist friend who is willing to mount the bull at cost for me. But I'm not sure if I should mount the bull or sell the cape and do it in a few years. My problem is that I live in a 900 square foot apartment. I already have a 367 bull and 2 Coues on the wall. I'm in college and will be moving in the next year or two.

I really don't want to mount the bull with a different cape, but I've been told my cape will loose its stretch and will be hard to mount in a few years when I have more money to put into it.

Should I mount it? or should I sell the cape? How much is the cape gunna sell for?

Here is the bull:

IMO, you're in college, save the 800-1200 bucks on a mount and use that to go on an out of state hunt and kill another (bigger) bull, then reevaluate.

If you keep mounting them, you will be missing out on money to go hunting with!

If the cape is tanned you can put it in the freezer and it will keep for a long time!!! Should have no problem mounting it two or three years down the road!!! I work for Harlow's Taxidermy in Tucson and we do it often when guys have that problem. Being a taxidermist though I say mount it...HAHAHA....Just my 2 cents but you should be good....

That your dad was there for both is very meaningful. But I don't think that a euro mount is necessarily any less meaningful than a shoulder mount. You'll be able to point to both some day when you're spinning yarns to the kids about living in the West before it became overrun with people. Whatever you decide, it’ll be the right thing for you. Good luck!

You know, that's a really beautiful animal, and you said you're dad was there with you. If that means the same to you as it would for me, then I say mount it. Scores only go so far for me, but preserving a memory of a hunt with your father is something else in my book. I'd mount it. And I'm 24 in college and living in an apartment too. Just another opinion to throw at ya, either way though, congratulations on an exceptional bull!

Mount it! I got my first bull 2 years ago and I had to get it mounted! It wasnt a huge bull but it just meant so much to me.

Thats a really sweet bull. But Id say NO to mounting. I understand how you would want to keep the same cape with the same rack, heck I have a whitetail on the wall that is bout......sheesh......20+ yrs old. What Im gettin at is sooner or later your gonna need to have the cape re-done. Im wrestling with having my whitetail re-done, but I see all the new mounts and it sure would pretty that sucker up. besides that, euro mounts take up enough room as it is, let alone a shoulder mount. And moving, and $......I already think you know the answer to your question, otherwise you wouldnt have asked. EEEHHHHHH...what the heck.....mount that sucker!!!!
