HuntKaibab Report post Posted May 6, 2009 has anyone hunted this units for mule deer? My dad hunted unit 10 for late cow last year and said he saw very few deer but said it looked pretty good. Im kinda looking for pinon juniper country not really pines. This we we can glass long distances and put those $1600 swaros to use . So anyway i was thinking maybe unit 10. Possibly try and hunt closer to the house and try 20c or 22 maybe by rosey or something. I know this is a coues site but looking for an alternative to putting in for the grey ghost this season as i can barely ever track down a mule deer let alone a coues . O yea 1 more thing, any know of any other decent units that they offer for jr hunters this year? Thanks alot for the help guys -Mike

king4wd Report post Posted May 6, 2009 When I worked for the Kaibab NF in Williams, we would see very respectable deep forked mulies quite often up in 10. This buck came from 10 close to the Perrin Ranch. Not mine, but a buddy's. http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?...mageID=22479601
Non-Typical Solutions Report post Posted May 6, 2009 Very few mule deer in 10 and they are ALL just dinks
catclaw Report post Posted May 6, 2009 There are some nice mulies in 10, but there are few deer period. I spent 18 days last september hunting and saw less than 10 the entire hunt. Most of what I did see was from the truck- driving to new areas. Did have 4 nice ones cross in front of me one day, the nicest of which might go 180. I wouldn't put in for 10 unless I lived in Williams or Seligman myself. I have seen more and better deer in 19 than 10.
alexjh1 Report post Posted May 25, 2009 Been in unit ten for Elk a few times, I have seen a small group deer once in that time and I have put a lot ot miles on my boots there scouting. Are there deer there....yes, probably not the hotspot you are hoping for. I think I have seen more antalope, Elk and even donkeys in that area than I have seen deer. Sorry for the bad report but that has been my experience in that unit. I spent my time in the southern end of unit 10. Good luck.

Flash Report post Posted May 31, 2009 If you think you may have found a hot spot, well....take a look at the success odds over the years. It is a tough hunt. With that said, there are always a few nice bucks taken in the unit each year. Access north of Williams is very limited (private land) but there is a lot of country on the west end that is the type of country you are looking for. Most is private but open to hunting. GL in your decision.

king4wd Report post Posted June 5, 2009 ha ha NATEs Mom.......... are u sure that was in 10? Pretty sure. He had gone up there the september before the rut hunt and got into a whole mess of 'em. Since he found them he made it a personal mission to kill one of the bucks up there.
