scottk Report post Posted April 28, 2009 If you guys know Simon and his dogs you know these are great dogs. I have hunted behind these dogs many times on mearns and they have unbelievable style and manners. If I didnt already have 3 bird dogs I would jump on the chance of one of these dogs. If you are considering getting a bird dog I suggest you give Simon a call. I am sure he will give you an opportunity to see his dogs work, you will be impressed. jdmecomber Report post Posted April 29, 2009 I bought a male from Simon about three years ago. My dog has great natural ability and was a great hunter at one year old. His dogs truely are hunting dogs with more drive then any other german shorthairs you will ever know. Simon is more then willing to help you in the process of getting a great dog to training it. I still remember the first day I picked my puppy up from Simon and my puppy was just locked on that wing for a minute it was quite a site. If you have any questions my email is jdmecomber@yahoo.com

Coues 'n' Sheep Report post Posted May 15, 2009 PM me if you have any questions or wouold like to see the pedigree's. I'm still waiting on the pedigree's if you dont mind. If you are just looking for a hunting dog I'd pay more attention to the possitive feed back that was posted... Pedigrees don't make a hunting dog.... they only matter if you plan to show or trial.... IMO.

IMO. +1, I have a brittney, english pointer mix who is out of this world and learned VERY fast. Then i got a GSP with good lines and it took him MUCH longer to get to the point my mut was. This past year was his third year and I finnaly got to the point I could trust him. Now I LOVE hunting them both because they compliment eachother so well and pick up the slack from the other. With the right training most dogs have great potatial, heck I have a freind who trained his springer to point.

IMO. I would agree Pedigrees don't make a hunting dog. You can have a mutt thats great and have a dog with a great pedigree that can't follow his own trail back to the truck. I was asking for a buddy that wants to compete in trials. He has already found a pup out of Texas. Thanks
azbownunter22 Report post Posted May 16, 2009 Here is my .02, I think pedigrees are where you should start when considering making such a large purchase. Next you should look at the parents, see them hunt, shoot a few birds over them, and then see how they handle. I do not get cought up in AFC this and NFC that. With that being said, I do look for solid foundation dog's in a pedigree. Such as, Beiers Evolution, Aces Prima Bahnane, Hill Havens Hustler, and a few others. I believe some of the best hunting stalk come from fields trial lines. If I said it once I 've said it a thousand times, you can take run out of a dog...But you can't add to it. I strarted my lines with field trial stock and then added a imported GSP for a more traditional stlye dog. What I have ended up with is a dog that is at home with my little ones, a dog that will hunt in front of a horse, a dog that will hunt in front of a foot hunter, and run a really nice Gun Dog course. I could go on further but it's getting late and I'm going fishing tomorrow. Thank you guy's for the interesting thread and I'll look forward to picking this topic up next week. Take care,

Got my old mute to keep me campany Sweet pic!!! I love it! You are wise to pass on such an adventure. When someone calls me about buying a puppy, started, or finished dog I will spend hour trying to talk them out of it. Owning a pointing dog is a lot of work. It's like having twin boys who are into everything but worse, twin boys don't pull up 50 feet of irragation. Either you have the time or you don't, only you can decide. Happy hunting,
