As I recall, the elk in the CAP canal was Tranq'ed and taken back up north. seems to me that was 8-10 years ago. the officials could not splain how it got so far south!

I have not seen the elk but have seen his tracks and scat in a number of places. I haul water to some of the game tanks around that area and have been working with the game warden (Bob Lemons) on tring to locate the elk and to see if he has any cows with him so they can figure out how much work it will take to get them or him captured and hauled up to the mountains before summer hits if you could e-mail me the coordinances of the elk it would be kept between us and g&f . I will let you know what goes on and when if you want. I followed his tracks in the frost in January when I was deer hunting, gave up when I got into some deer. No one believed me until I showed them the photos. I will see if I can find them and post them for everyone. Thanks Chris

The pictures that were sent to me were taken from a truck, I don't know who took them or when they were taken, but it was a bull elk with some cattle, the pictures looked real to me. I couldn't post them, but I did send them to Amanda. Hopefully Keith can help you out with a location.

I found my e-mail from G&F and sent the picture to Amanda. The picture is real I have been to those corrals and the mountains in the back ground are the Tortilltas just north of Tucson. He is still very much alive and travelling in about a 5 mile area. We haven't been able to spend a bunch of time out there looking for him because of work, but get out for a day every couple of weeks. Hopefully we can find him before it is to hot.

Yea, the game warden just sent me one . I don't know who he got his from or how many he has. I'd like to see the ones you have, are they all at the same place in the corrals. I saw his tracks about 2 1/2 miles from the corrals.

OK, I can't sit here and read this anymore without piping in. hunterdude, do you mean the Tortolitas or the Tortillas? I am having a really hard time believing that there is a wild elk in the Tortolitas, Tortillas would be a little closer but still! Don't get me wrong, I am not by any means calling you a liar, it is just that the likely-hood of a wild elk coming this far south is too much!

Got to see pictures, and full story. There used to be some really big mulies in the Tortolitas ......perhaps.....................

I DID NOT GET A CHANCE TO GO SEE THE ELK FOR MYSELF. MY UNCLE ENDED UP GETTING SICK AND DID NOT WANT TO GO. HE CALLED THE AGFD IN FEB. WHEN THEY FIRST FOUND IT AND THEY TOLD HIM THAT THEY WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING BECAUSE THEY FELT THAT NO VIOLATION WAS COMMITTED. HE DID NOT TAKE ANY PICUTRES OF HIS OWN BUT HIS BOTHER-IN LAW TOOK VIDEO AND SOME PICUTRES. I AM SURE IF THE AGFD WANT HIS HELP IN LOCATING THE ELK HE WOULD HELP. HE LIVES IN CASA GRANDE.

Here are the photos for those curious. Keith sent them to me and I linked them from my own server so they should not eat up CWD bandwidth.

I thought the mtns in the background looked like south of the superstitions.

Anyway, you can decide for yourself.

Enjoy!
