Mangum Report post Posted April 24, 2009 Last week me Dad and Brother went scouting for their elk hunt. They planned on checking a tank where they normally see a lot of elk . When they got close to it my bro. said that he was going to park the truck and walk around, but he got the feeling that he should just drive up to it. When they came up over the burm there was a pack of 10 wild dogs eating a cow. As soon as the dogs saw the truck they rushed it and if my brother would have given them the chance they probably would have eaten the tires and anything else they could sink their teeth into. Unfortunately neither of them had guns. So they left the dogs to their kill. I was just wonder how common are packs of wild dogs and if any of you have ever had a run in with any of them? They kind of got seperated and when he found his wife again that same pack had her cornered and were moving in on her. He killed three or four of them and the rest ran off. Sorry about your hound. joeybari Report post Posted April 24, 2009 is this true or it seems like its a he said she said post i dont what any one to get upset but i have lived and hunted deer and elk in that unit of years and i never seen any sign of dogs but at the same time a wild dog and a coyote scat would look the same. any more info or pics of a wild dog? johnnie blaze Report post Posted April 24, 2009 Ive ran across "wild" dogs before. I hunt unit 33 and not right next to any roads, thats for dang sure. My question is (and without gettin bashed by hound users), are these dogs Im runnin across, that are super aggressive, dogs that have been lost by amateur lion hunters and couldnt be relocated? Non-Typical Solutions Report post Posted April 24, 2009 Remember the Elmer Fudd cartoon where he tries to ditch his dog...................probably going to see more of that as people can't afford to feed their critters. Cases have already been reported of horses being dropped off onto ranches in hopes that somebody can care for them. Out east of town here it has been more a case of 40 acre parcels where people buy land cheap, have animals, dogs, cats. Dogs and cats haven't been spayed, run loose because some people think it is OK for them to be free roamers. Next thing you know you got the neighbors dogs hooking up for an afternoon romp. It has gotten so bad on the east side of town that the county folks want the town animal control to come out and dispense of the dogs, but the town animal control won't go out there cause it is out of his jurisdiction.
