crazy elk head

Recommended Posts

Found this head last weekend. We went on a medium sized hike (10 hours) in a new to me area. We didn't score big on sheds but it takes a while to learn a new area. This head is about four years old and slightly crittered chewed, but can be easily restored to like new. Dont have any shed pictures but maybe antler head will send me some.

It would be my guess that this bull had a severe head injury when he was younger but whats to say for sure.

I would also guess that a constant ear infection would plague this bull do to the constriction of the ear canal.

I have heard of a couple other bulls with similar antler growth, both of which were very sick and frail before they died.

Great find! If a medium sized hike is 10 hours I have a lot of work to do! There are only about 14 hours of light per day right now amigo. I don't even want to know what a big hike would consist of.

Guess larry liked this tree on his trek, not all the interesting and cool stuff out there must be an antler to be treasured and appreciated. That hill looks steep, way to pound the hills larry, just a matter of time as you told me before.

The area we went in would normally be an over night stay. To antler hunt for 2 full days on the weekend is not uncommon for us.

Go in very far and you spend half of the day just walking into your spot and back out again.

Busted out the epoxy, Elmers glue, and dye to fix him up a bit. Filled all the age cracks with glue and ant. dust. Grafted on a piece of antler on the typical side where the 6 and 7 was chewed off. post-3284-1242664273_thumb.jpg
