m77 Report post Posted April 3, 2009 Who else would like to see this made mandatory? If you don't report your success or failure to kill your name gets pulled from the following years draw. All game and fish would have to do is add it to the website in the same area we check our results. Log in by your hunter number and birthday, enter your tag hunt number and tag number, and report your success. This would make for a lot better estimating on the part of game and fish. Might even increase tag numbers. Alan
RoughCut Report post Posted April 3, 2009 I was thinking about this same thing just this morning. I couldn't agree more and think it's assanign they don't. NM has this in place and it's no problem.
bcoover Report post Posted April 3, 2009 I would support it.
Coues Sniper Report post Posted April 3, 2009 It's mandatory here in NV. I see no downside to it at all.
bowhunter4life Report post Posted April 3, 2009 that is a must! since they only allow a 20% harvest of archery hunters to rifle hunters "deer". as of now they base all there info off survey cards, taxidermists reports and a few other methods. I been told they base there harvest on about a 45% return rate of successful harvest. making it mandatory then the wildlife managers will have true facts to base there agenda on. a win win for all parties involved. GameHauler Report post Posted April 4, 2009 As much as I HATE any new regulation (laws) this one could be for the good.
singleshot Report post Posted April 4, 2009 I have always filled them out and always sent them in, the surveys. I would support it.

m77 Report post Posted April 4, 2009 Where are you Game & Fish???? Weigh in on this one. Tell us what's your opinion. I've made this suggestion and I believe you'd get overwhelming support from the sportsman on this website. It's any easy update to your current program. A reporting timeline after the end of each hunt could be established, say 30 or 60 days. At the time the sportsman completes the reporting he/she could print a confirmation page for their records and you would have a timely reporting of all hunts. KGAINES Report post Posted April 4, 2009 This has been brought up to AZGFD before, and the explanation given is that they don't need to do that yet because they have sufficient returns from the mail out surveys. I think mandatory reporting is a good thing, but I also think it has to be done with an on-line option, where it will show your hunter number updated as soon as it is done. I also think an option would be that if they show you haven't done it in the allotted time frame, and you have no proof that you did it, you can fill out one prior to the draw for a five or ten dollar fee. jnobleinaz Report post Posted April 4, 2009 1000% yes I think once it was in place it would be great. I do not see any negative reasons for not doing it. It would be a great tool.
tjhunt2 Report post Posted April 4, 2009 I would support this as well. If you don't report then you can't put in the following year. A confirmation number would be issued to assure you had done it. There will be mistakes and if it's on the part of the g&f then you automaticly are drawn for your tag. TJ
Coues79 Report post Posted April 4, 2009 This is an absolute "NO BRAINER" that Game and Fish should implement. First, it is going to boost feedback on harvest information, regardless if they have high returns on the survey cards. If you make folks have to report it, or else they don't hunt the next year, people are going to get the picture. We all see it in terms of being able to hunt, but the big picture encompasses our wildlife. It is for the benefit of WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT. Second, it shows who is really going to be concerned with the future of our wildlife. People who really care, are going to report their success. That is part of being a responsible hunter. We want to be a good model what it means to be a hunter, for our youth, for the public and for recruitment of new hunters. We want responsible people and a good name for ourselves. Third, there are 3 different methods that could be impemented to serve all of the folks that drew tags. Offer a phone in method, mail-in method and reporting online. There should be no excuse if success is not reported. Fourth, if they want to save money, they can cut the survey cards or mail in report success, and strictly go to online or telephone reporting. You may have a few complaints for those that aren't computer savvy or don't know how to use a phone. Last, if for some reason someone forgot to report, it is only one year you go without having a chance to apply in the lottery. Remember, we still have loads of other animals where one could get an OTC tag to go and pursue. I don't understand why this idea can't be implemented. It is for the help of Wildlife Management. billrquimby Report post Posted April 5, 2009 Just one question: Why? The reasons posted simply do not compute. The numer of hunting permits for everything we hunt (except pronghorn and bighorn) are so conservative and are not based upon the actual number of animals available, what could possibly be gained be exposing ourselves to one more level of regulation?
