Becker Report post Posted March 31, 2009 Shot a bull last year with the G5 montecs, the elk went maybe twenty yards. I was very impressed. When I peeled back the skin on the exit side, it was blood shot like I had used a rifle. My wife shot a deer in august with one and had the same results....They fly just like field tips out of my bow (70lbs) and my wife's (48lbs).
CouesFanatic Report post Posted March 31, 2009 WackEm's are great. I shot muzzy's for a while but each one seems to fly different. WackEm's seem to always fly where my field tips do.

hawkeye Report post Posted March 31, 2009 Good call on switching to fixed blades. I have shot a few elk with expandables, and some were very difficult to find. Not much of a blood trail. Last year my son tried quite a few fixed heads trying to find ones to fly. He chose the Crimson Talon Hyper Speed. They shot very well and what a blood trail. Look at the puddle of blood in the picture. I couldn't believe the trail. Looked like someone was pooring a bucket of red paint in the trees and on the ground. bcoover Report post Posted March 31, 2009 I have used fixed blades for years. I have always liked them, but last year I tried a new one. The undertaker broadhead, it worked better than I expected. I shot my bull at fifty yards. He ran a total of seventy yards. I saw him go down and he was dead before I could walk over to him. I would of waited the normal hour before aproching but I could tell he was dead. The broadhead left a hole on both sides the size of a silver dollar. When he hit the ground he slid on his side about ten feet on the ground. It looked like I had taken a paint roller and painted a ten foot strip. I don't think I will use a different broadhead for a while. I also think most broadheads out there will get the job done. Rather than looking at the heads themselve find one that shoot the best on your set up. All the fixed heads I have shot have come close to shooting like my field tips, but not as close as I would have liked. The undertaker broadhead shot identical to my field tips. You can see my bull on Youtube under (six minutes till broadside) he went down right after the video cut out. You can see the blood on his side right before he goes down. WHT_MTNMAN Report post Posted April 1, 2009 I've shot alot of heads and really like the G5 Striker, very sharp and extremely tough. Get something that flies true out your bow. Make sure you broadhead tune, then most any head will fly good.
Cowboy Report post Posted April 1, 2009 Go old school. I have shot Snuffers for over 30 years. They don't break, they fly great, you can sharpen the back side (this is for us traditionalists), and you can sharpen them easly. I have shot them through compounds (when I was a tecno geek) I shoot them through my recurve and long bow. They fly great. I have got lots of meat elk, deer, lopes, and stink rats (javies) over the years. last years elk traveled about 65 yrds. Any fixed blade will work as long as you practice and keep them sharp. Congradulations on the taggood luck on the elk hunt. I think I'll buy an OTC again this year. Good luck all Geoff
