Black River

If you flip, you can still "scout for trout"

Thats funny, I know we are going to fish, not sure if we are gonna run it though, and I think I would freeze if i got too wet! Hopefully I will have some pictures and a good story when we get back....

Red Rabbit,

Do you have a feel for what's a fishable flow rate? 500 fps? 250?

I always fish more on weather than on flow, but I know that I don't like it over 550 fps. I always fish for bass and not trout. If we go before April we don't catch bass but some good cold water cats can be found.

When we have gone for smallies Memorial Day or later in the summer, the flow was 100-250, if I recall. It has been several years since I last went, but it used to be an annual trip. We would go anywhere from the Pumphouse to Tick Flat.

With the no-snow spring we are having, the runoff should end sooner.

Seems we did better with black twister tail grubs than small rapalas or spinners. The most enjoyable was a popper on a fly rod.

If the water is not following to fast try a X-rap rapala jerk bait with a green or black back, or a small yamamoto grud in dark colors with aquarter ounce jig head. Bass should be close to spawning.

Fishing was terrific, although we never made it to the river. We fished the tanks on top by Point of the Pines. I haven't been in that part of the state since I was little....real little and that country still looks just as big if not bigger. We caught at least 100 largemouth......and one heck of a buzz, and I was so busy......fishing, that I forgot to take any pictures of us......fishing! I do have a few pictures I can share with the public....
