Ever gone to your spot/stand and somebody was there

Recommended Posts

Long ago in a land (state) far away baiting was legal where I then lived. Do not remember exactly how much you were allowed to dispense at your location each time. I would take a 5 gallon bucket of carrots and one of apples about 3/4 of a mile back in 'da woods" dump them quickly and get out. Those suckers were gone almost everytime I came to restock, which was about every 3 days as I was newly married and still in school. Opening morning comes and I go back in to the blind I had made with small timbers and brush (should have invented a pop up tent) about 50 yards from the bait. Sit for maybe 10 minutes and think to myself " you got a good hour before daylight go look and see how much is still left. Leave my rifle at the blind grab the flashlight and walk over moving the light back and forth as I go almost right at my feet so as I don't trip. I get almost to the base of the large tree where I had been putting the bait and I hear the loudest scream I ever heard and it came out of my mouth. All I see is some fellow's legs at the base of the tree, he is sitting right on top of my apples and carrots and never gave any warning as I approached. We both said some words to each other which i can't recall exactly, I don't think I was too polite. Since then I have always tried to go a little deeper into the country then other hunters, don't want anybody scaring me. :D
