CouesWhitetail Report post Posted March 4, 2005 Those of you who have been around the forum awhile might remember that my old jeep was broken into about 7-8 months ago while I was having lunch at a nice restaurant in Tucson. I had almost all my hunting stuff in the car. And they got the stereo which my husband had just given me for xmas. Anyway, I lost about $3000 worth of gear. I was able to get it replaced with my homeowner's insurance. They were really good about it. But last weekend, I got broken into again. This time at an ice rink in Tucson on Sunday morning!! I just never would have thought that was a high risk place. I am down there a lot and haven't had a problem at the rink before. This time they got my cell phone, a suitcase full of clothes and misc items, and about 25 CD's. And unfortunately, in an odd twist of fate, I had a set of car keys and house keys in my console, which they grabbed. (I know it was stupid, and I have never done that before, but I had already started my jeep with the other set and then realized I need a key on the other key chain so I went in the house and instead of grabbing the key off it, I just threw the whole thing in the car). So this past week I spent getting my Jeep rekeyed and my house rekeyed. He also got my checkbook so it had my address on it. And although he is unlikely to drive up here to come to my house, I figured better safe then sorry. I HATE THIEVES!!! and the worst part is the value of the items to them is so small compared to what they actually cost me. ARGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! azpackhorse Report post Posted March 4, 2005 I feel your pain! I should settle with the insurance company next week on my truck. I would take a big loss in $ if I could just get my hands around the scum that took my stuff. I am with you Amanda, Tucson sucks!
COUESAZ Report post Posted March 4, 2005 get ready for all the hot checks to come rolling in. I have gone through about 20 thousand dollars with the two times my check got stolen. Even though you cacel them people still use them and stores take them. Most of them will be used at wallmart and home depot. It will go on for months on end so be ready. You are coverd by your bank but you still have to fight people when they call and tell you that you bounced or canceld a check.
25-06 Report post Posted March 5, 2005 Amanda that sucks real bad, I hope they catch the little prick that did this. I have lived in Tucson for 20 years, and I am also starting to hate is as well. The crime here has pretty much incresed alot over the last couple years, in places where we use to think its safe IS NOT SAFE ANY MORE
KGAINES Report post Posted March 5, 2005 Sorry to hear it happened to you again. A few years ago we had a quad, motorcycle, and just about every thing they could take from my camp trailer stolen, the quad was my brothers and was a month old they were all locked up with a cable, this happened on the night my wife had my daughter while we were at the hospital. Not only did they steal the stuff, but they cut a section out of my fence to get it. I feel for you and hope by some miracle that they catch the punks. az4life Report post Posted March 5, 2005 Sorry to hear about your loss amanda. thieves just plain Suck. Tucson has a lot of that sort of activity from reading the local paper online. Proximit to the border is touted as a large part of the problem. Unfortunately these sort of crimes take a low priority and are rarely solved Thus we all pay higher insurance and have less faith in our fellow man. I agree, it is unlikely thye will show up at your home but just in case, you might want to put up one of those signs in your driveway. Y'know the one... "Owner Guarding this property with a shotgun 24 hours a day, 6 days a week. You can guess the day off." Maybe it is Time to get a TAZER alarm. Zaps anyone who gets in without a key! Diamondbackaz Report post Posted March 5, 2005 AZ4life, how can you make such an assumption of Tucson by reading the paper. I am sure you will find similar problems in the Phoenix metro area. This crime was most likely committed by a meth user and not by a border crosser. I was born here in Tucson and have lived all of my 41 years of life here and have never had a vehicle broken into, and none of my family members have never had their vehicles broken into. Sorry to hear about your loss Amanda, I am assuming you were at the ice rink near Kolb and Speedway which is not a real high crime area. I suspect that they saw your things laying there and saw an opportunity.
az4life Report post Posted March 5, 2005 Diamondbackaz Admittely, I Lumped vehicle crimes (break-ins, theft combined) together. the fact is Phx and Tucson have some of the highest insurance rates due to extreme amount of vehicle theft and break ins. I am sure you agree The short trek to the border is the main reason. Even the police and insurance co's agree . In any case, Meth user, Illegal border crosser, Young punk looking for easy money to score a Halo2 game, it makes no difference. they all suck! They have no fear of or respect for the law. Dodger2 Report post Posted March 6, 2005 I'm sorry to hear that your car got broken into. That really sucks. If it did occur at the skating rink there at Speedway and Kolb, it doesn't surprise me. Two years ago, someone tried to steal my truck in the same location. Luckily, someone pulled up in front of my truck with them in it and they bailed into a Jeep cherokee with Sonora plates on it. Anyways, I have lived in Tucson (20years), where I was born and live now, Flagstaff (6 years) and Phoenix (4 years). In that time, I have someone break into a vehicle in all three towns. I would say that it can happen anywhere and as our population continues to increase the chances of it happening will increase. It can happen anywhere! Brian Payne Report post Posted March 7, 2005 Amanda, Sorry to hear about your losses. I moved to Tucson about a year ago just to go to U of A. Within the first month someone tried to steal my truck and did $450 damage to the door lock and ignition. Of course my deductable was $500. The cop told me that about 30 vehicles a night are stolen in Tucson area and taken strait across the border to Mexico. He also said my truck was seconds away from being gone and that the thief must have gotten spooked for some reason. Just a few months later someone broke into my house and stole my stereo. I'd love to get my hands on one of these punks and give them a little old fashioned justice if you know what I mean, especially since they are rarely delt with by the law. CouesWhitetail Report post Posted March 7, 2005 Thanks for all the sympathy wishes. I appreciate it. Wow, with all the crime you all have suffered down there, it's really a sad situation. I personally like a lot of things about Tucson, but this is ridiculous. It is such a huge waste of time and resources. They get pennies on the dollar compared to the actually cost. Arizona Guide, I sure hope the checks don't start rolling in. Thanks for letting me know about your experience with that. I am not looking forward to it. I am pretty sure I didn't have anything in my checkbook with my SSN on it, but it's making it hard to sleep at night sometimes thinking about it. coues addict Report post Posted March 19, 2005 Amanda I am truly sorry to hear about your loss. I have lived my whole life only 15 miles from the Mexico border I have heard many of the same stories. I also had my truck stolen back in 1998 or so and it does hurt! I am no expert, but in my experiences, crime, thievery, etc. seem to be more prevalent in large urban areas.I personally believe that the main reason is that these areas have Exceeded there holding capacity!!!! When you start getting several thousands or even millions of people in one big huge town there are lots of problems. I really believe most kids, drug addicts, etc. are really just products of their enviornments. Many parents don`t really have any Idea where there kids are at night or what there up to! Lots of parents don`t even care! Things are important, but the main thing to me is God, family and friends. I would love to live in a really small town where everybody really knew each other! Maybe someday I will. The problem is the big towns are where most people go to try and earn a living! Thank God you didn`t get hurt, attacked, shot at or even worse!!!!!!!!!!!!! Stay positive and things will probably work out. Coues Addict OBTW: my truck was found up near San Diego (not Mexico) and was pretty messed up!
