Unit 10 early rifle

Recommended Posts

Wife finally drew a unit 10 early rifle bull tag after 18yrs. If you have had this tag in the last few years and are willing I’d like to hear how the hunt went.

Thx

Hunt close to the town of Williams. Between Williams and Ashfork . On the north side of I 40. There is a golf coarse near catarac lake. The woods just north is a good bedding area. They lay in there until dark then move out into the golf course. Just be careful and sure your in far enough to make the 1/4 limit. The road that runs along side the railroad tracks. Is a good road to use for glassing areas .going West toward Ashfork. Around Kiabab lake is a descent area too.

My wife had that hunt back in 2003 so I don't think my knowledge and info is much good.  I can tell you she did not kill on the Boquillas ranch and don't overlook that big wide-open country.  This was probably the most stressful hunt I have ever been involved with.  I scouted much more for this hunt than any other hunt and the pressure people would put on only shooting a 380 type bull was crazy.  My advice to you and your wife is to enjoy the hunt and make it enjoyable for her.  Congratulations and good luck!

Appreciate it! I’m not set on a score. It just has to be “that’s the bull”.  After that just hoping for a good rut. 2003 knowledge is still knowledge ;) really just wanting to hear about hunts in the unit. Seeing elk, pressure , how did it go , things that you would do differently. Campfire talk…

We hunted the youth hunt last year. The rut was still going, but not crazy. The bulls will get in that open stuff at night but bolt for the trees at daylight. We’ve hunted on the Bo. It’s good. And you can glass if the rut sucks. And remember the water rule. You can’t hunt within 100 yds of water. But you can sit 300 yds away and watch it, which works for a rifle hunt. We’ve found water tanks there with dozens of elk skeletons around them. Pretty much tells you where to be.
