Gr8 White Jr Report post Posted March 18, 2009 I have been predator calling for about 9 years now and have killed many foxes and coyotes. I has been a dream of mine to kill a bobcat so I could have it mounted lifesize and that dream became a reality today. With the really wonderfull state of the economy , work was canceled yesterday and today. I decided to make the best of the situation and go out predator calling for the day. I made sure to put my CouesWhitetail.com shirt on today to bring me some good luck. I left pretty early this morning, not even knowing where I was going, and drove out to the desert. The first place I set up to call was absolutely gorgeous! I hiked down and set up on a flat on the edge of a river bottom surounded by steep rocky mountains. After calling for about 30 mins or so I figured nothing was coming in so I decided to take some pictures of the surounding area and then hike back to my truck. After getting back to the truck I drove to another spot about 20 miles away but on the edge of the same river bottom. I wasn't too pleased with the area so I just parked and walked around to see if there was any predator sign in the area. The area was VERY thick and in most places too thick to even walk through. As I walked ( sometimes crawling) around I noticed that there was bobcat scat EVERYWHERE so I decided this would be a great place to call. I went back to my truck and got my shotgun and my pack and headed down the edge of the river bottom to try and find and openning to set up in. I found the perfect place about 1/4 of a mile away, an openning about 15 yds wide and 30 yds long. I set up according to the wind and hoped for the best. After about 10 minutes this huge Tom seemed to just appear out of nowhere. I was looking to my left and then looked to the right for about 3 seconds and when I looked back to my left he was just standing there on the edge of the brush in the open. I was so nervous and afraid that he was going to bolt as soon as I moved to aim. I slowly swung my shotgun over toward him and put the bead on him. The whole time he was staring right at me and then I pulled the trigger. The 12g 3 1/2 in mag #4 shot dropped him at less than 15 yds. He is a huge mature Tom and absolutely beautifull! I was so excited I was jumping up and down. I didn't even finish my day of predator calling, I took pictures, took him back to the truck and headed straight to the taxidermist. I am still floating from what happend this morning. Thanks for reading my story!

josh Report post Posted March 18, 2009 Well done! There is always something special about calling in a bobcat. Once you get the first one they will start showing up more often. Especially when you start to target them. Sounds like you are doing just that. Fur looks real nice still. congrats on a great trophy. Josh
