Tanning question

I recently shot my first fox and have been trying to tan it myself. This morning, I was washing it in dish soap and a bunch of the fur started to fall out and now there are large patches of missing fur. I’m thinking I must’ve made a mistake at some point in the process, wondering if anyone knows what could’ve gone wrong.

How fast did you skin it after it was dead? Did you salt and dry it first and are now tanning or still wet?

I spend 15 mins in the tanning bed, 6 days a week.  Nothing slips or is dry, but i lube up.

Pretty difficult to say why it failed without knowing your process. Most likely culprit though is bacteria. gotta get it frozen or salted right away after skinning. Gotta skin them asap depending on how warm it is outside.

If the PH is wrong in the pickle that can happen.

Had this happen with lye and a rabbit fur once. Great learning experience though 😂😂

Hair is slipping do to bacteria in the hair follicle. Aka spoilage from what I've been told.
