Javelina Rifle and Cartridge

Recommended Posts

This year I am hunting with my 1965 Winchester 94 30-30.  Son is hunting with his Marlin 336 30-30.  Iron sights on both.
I am bringing my Savage 22-250 as a backup 😮

If I ever rifle hunt javelina, it will be with my dad's AR that he got when I was in elementary school.  1980s Colt A1 style, just like he carried in Vietnam.  Accurate has heck.  My favorite rifle hunt that I've been on so far was when my son shot his 3rd javelina with my 1956 H&R M1 Garand.  He had just turned 12 and the rifle was almost as big as he was!

22 MAG, .222 REM and .223.

Its been a long time since I even cared about javelina. Can you shoot one with a rimfire in Az now? I know in the past you could not

Last I checked (its been a very long time), 22 Mag is the minimum caliber for javelina.

I thought I remember it being changed at one point, but wasn't sure. Funny story and not meaning to hi jack the thread but I had a guy run a lion with me and the game warden wanted to be along. They wanted me to shoot it with a .22 mag he had in his pack. I told him It wasn't legal and shot it with my ultra carry .45 that I always had in my truck back then. I always wonder if I was getting set up or if they really didn't know I couldn't shoot it with a rimfire.
