Couescrazy33 Report post Posted Monday at 09:22 PM Are you just curious or trying to gather data to get sitting water banned?
HuntHarder Report post Posted Monday at 09:25 PM For sure get water banned. Loin cloths and spears only. Nah, just curious as everyone says how many deer have died on water this year. Did you kill one?
Couescrazy33 Report post Posted Monday at 09:59 PM No, my time in 2024 went to my early rifle bull tag and wifes first deer hunt. The end of 2024 and this year have gone to working extra to pay for that bull hunt. Just was curious the intention of the poll. Very slippery slope for people who want to ban sitting water. Im all for getting deer herd numbers back up and don't disagree to an extent of that idea. However where does the line get drawn.. Do they also ban sitting water on elk hunts, antelope hunts, sheep hunts, etc..
HuntHarder Report post Posted Monday at 10:12 PM Yeah, gotcha. I killed my Archery bull this year over water. I have yet to kill a deer on water, but have only sat water maybe 3 days for deer in the last 20 years. I enjoy spot and stalk to much, to be bored all day sitting water. Everyone's line is drawn at different points imo, I personally have 0 issues with water sitting, but I know some guys are against it. When people mention the quota disappearing so fast, lots name a main reason as a dry year in '24 and "dinks killed on water." I am a hunter first and foremost and do not believe anyone should tell someone not to shoot a legal animal. I enjoy the meat and knowing how it is processed and taken care of. My family has maybe bought 10lbs of hamburger over the last 20 years. I have been fortunate to usually have a freezer full of grind.
dsotm Report post Posted Monday at 11:21 PM Been drawing a tag pretty reliably so passed on small this month when I finally saw some on water. Still need to get a velvet buck anyhow.
creed Report post Posted Monday at 11:48 PM What I find interesting is this is the driest I have seen 42 since 2002. It's also the longest it has remained opened since the quota system went into effect. It came within a couple of days of making it all the way.
maximus Report post Posted Tuesday at 03:40 AM In the boquillas in unit 10 they don’t let you sit water and no trail cams before the ban, haven’t been there in a few years, does anybody seen improvement on the elk and deer herds?
mc68 Report post Posted Tuesday at 03:15 PM I think it’s time they look at hunting on water. Baiting is not allowed, and I can’t see how sitting a man made water catchment is any different. In fact, I think it’s more of a draw to the animals. Our game is hunted for months on end and when we are in a big time drought they can’t even water without being f-ed with. For the record I’ve sat water before… 1 1

That ranch sucks, small goats and deer, covers half the unit
sneakem33 Report post Posted Tuesday at 05:36 PM Most people will never admit to hunting over water in an epic drought, however there's a blind on EVERY decent waterhole in Southern Arizona. But don't kid yourself, hunting water is a slam dunk given the right conditions... I've sat water, but I just hate sitting still, and feel better about taking a buck on the stalk overall...
wildwoody Report post Posted Tuesday at 06:14 PM Or shoot a turkey out of a tree or duck on the pond or quail on the ground. Its all legal and a great way to hunt in droughts
HuntHarder Report post Posted Tuesday at 06:35 PM People don't admit they sit water? I have never met anyone who won't admit it.

For the record I’ve sat water before… So people that enjoy hunting but are getting older and can't spot and stalk like they used to have to give it up all together? Because I know a handful of old timers that have few options besides sitting. Hunters are their own worst enemies. I don't agree with how others hunt so I will support banning it...
