Timmy Winslow

What are your thoughts about guides who sell GPS pins online to Honey holes? There’s this guy named Timmy Winslow and he sold GPS pins to multiple out-of-state hunters in unit 23, promising them that they were the only ones who had these GPS pins. Until they  showed up at the same spot the same time. My son was there… It got awkward fast for those guys.
I personally think this is unethical, and that a guide should accompany his client in the field. Not a huge fan of guides, but I understand their place.

I used Dwane Adams map service one year up in the Kaibab.  Different but similar.  He gave us a few spots depending on if it was still warm and a few if it was cold.  And how to hunt them. I felt it was the next best thing to hiring a guide. And luckily no one else showed up at the same spots.  Now selling pin drops to a honey hole and selling several to the same honey hole isn't a honey hole anymore and I would be pissed and want my money back. Is he a licensed guide? And if not is that considered making money off hunting and against the law?

“Spot selling” has been around for a while. Not sure if being a guide puts restrictions on that or not? Either way, if you buy a spot online, I’d say buy at your own risk. I’m sure the guide isn’t selling his own spots.

For what it’s worth. Tim is not a member but I gave him a heads up and his response…

Thanks for the heads up…yeah I had a big mixup with 2 hunters with scouting reports and offered them full refunds immediately but they liked the info and both had good hunts and even worked together on a couple stalks…It comes with the territory.

Does he find new spots every year or new animals every year and sell spots to only one person a year/season? If so, is that lucrative?

Yeah, it hasn’t set well with some locals.  I think I’m going to work on a law that says a guide has to accompany his client.  Selling gps pins just seems so unethical.

Fellas paid $1500 for those gps pins.  At least that’s what they told my son.
