AZCoueser Report post Posted January 1 Could use some tripod guidance here. Currently have a Slik CF-634 that I use for glassing. It has worked well enough for me for that purpose. What I’m struggling with is using the side of it while seated for longer distance (500yd) shooting when I cannot get prone. I’m eyeballing an Outdoorsman’s tall tripod (aluminum gen 2). Ideally I’d like to be able to use it for glassing and have a sturdier tripod to brace my rifle on to shoot seated. I’m not sure that I want to attach the rifle to the top of the tripod—having to take off the binos and put on a gun seems like a hassle. Or is it? I don’t want to carry two tripods either and enjoy glassing while standing. Thinking something a little more sturdy to shoot off the side of would be good enough. What are your all’s experience? Any good product recommendations?

Any good product recommendations? I have an outdoorsman medium with the pistol grip. It has an intention on the side of the pistol grip that I’ve shot off of. Just pivot the grip to a 90 degree and lay the rifle down. We also have the monfrotto alpha I believe. It comes with a rifle clamp. You can stand behind it to glass and quick detach your optic and attach the rifle clamp. It’s pretty slick. It’s decent quality but probably not the quality of an outdoorsman product. I don’t think the monfrotto would put up with the 20 years of use that my outdoorsman has but for the money pretty good
CatfishKev Report post Posted January 1 Well I don't know what tripod head you are using but I run a benro s2. I have the plates all pre attached to all my binos, big eyes and triclawps so it's essentially pretty quick and easy to swap from one thing to the next. I also have a slik cf 634 and it stays home most the time. Too light makes things to shaky especially when using big eyes. My go to tripod is a vanguard alta 264ao which is now discontinued but they make a newer version of it. I found it's the right combo of light enough and sturdy in the wind but when standing in wind it's still shaky so I carry an rei trail stool and sit to glass when possible. As far as mounting you're rifle I use a triclawps on the tripod but if I'm hunting I'll use a trigger stick or a hiking stick to stabilize the back end and that's worked well for the family. cjl2010 Report post Posted January 2 I use a Slik 834. I have a gen 2 outdoorsman’s quick release adapter. When I get to glassing knob I attach pan head or fluid head and when I shoot I use a RRS anvil 30. The quick release adapter has a lever lock so it’s easy to switch and I keep the heads in my pack so I don’t get them dusty from the Honda dust. I have an aluminum outdoorsman’s tall tripod and they are nice but it’s less stable than my 834, it gets cold, and it’s noisy if you accidentally bang a leg on anything. Nickp3d Report post Posted January 2 I have the Slik 833. I use the Sirui tripod head and have the outdoorman binocular mount with the Arca Swiss plate. I also have an arca swiss plate on my rifle. I dont like carrying around the deathgrip anymore. I can also use the outdoorsmans adapter for my BTX or Spotting scope. Been using this setup for years.
