Late hunt question

Hopefully this is the year! First time with a late tag,  so I'm hoping for a good outcome. I know the area really well and plan on putting miles on the boots

Best of luck to ya! Sure hopes it’s better than last year! Least deer movement I think I’ve ever seen in late December, and of course the year I  had a rifle tag…. Ended up shooting a good one but it definitely wasn’t because the bucks were on the move

6 days of hunting for me. I've seen 0 movement.  Last three days, I hunted, I saw one doe as I was packing up to leave.  Back at it tomorrow.

Heading back tomorrow myself. My observations have been no bucks chasing does, nowhere even near them. 50 does for every buck and the bucks I’ve seen were bunched up.
from about 1200 yards I saw what I thought was a good buck chasing some does but as I got closer I realized he was chasing off some smaller bucks.
sat some water but no bucks better than yearlings were coming during daylight.

We caught one big buck adjusting from his sunrise place to the heat of the day and 8-9 mid to smaller bucks opening weekend.

We had him at 750 yards with me behind my brothers new long range toy.  Just didn't feel right to me and in my head I think I can always find bigger.

If i can't find anything better, I will go back to him.

I was standing in a literal sea of shin dagger when I got within shooting range of the big one. He got tired of me trying to find a shooting platform and walked off. I’ll go back

Hopefully that will change. I'm looking forward to heading back out tomorrow.  I saw around 20 deer in the first 3 hours on Saturday but had to head back home. Ill be pushing it hard the next few days. Good luck on the rest of your hunt!

Atleast you know he'll be back. Hopefully you'll have a chance at him again.

dang, what part of the state are you hunting? Sounds like you need to find a new area. Hope you'll turn up some bucks.

36c.  When I am hunting for myself with time. I will push the envelope, looking for new areas.  I knew the population was low where I was headed, but also knew few people would hunt it and maybe find that older age class buck.

Starting tomorrow I will go back to more traditional areas.

Last couple of these late hunts we see little to no rut then the last 4 days of the year it's like a light switch everything chasing and fighting.

I'm in 36c as well. There are so many great spots that hold deer. I'll be out there solo unless a buddy shows up. Stop by if you see a ranger tremor. I'll be down near the southern portion

That's the thing, you just never know unless you see it first hand. Anything can happen in the field especially this time of year

That's an awesome area. We used to stay at the ranch house with the cowboys 50 years ago. Great memories from there. Good luck.
