Gunna buy a new pair of boots.... need advice.

I am with you, man! i have tried on a bunch and just can't make up my mind.... and can't get all the boots together in one place to really try them out.

 

The best two so far for me have been:

 

Lowa Renegade...... but it will be too weak for the heavy loads of packin' meat... I am not a light framed guy.

 

 

Vasque Wasatch GTX Hiking Boots ..... good boot and I may buy it.... jury is still out...

i was in the same boat as both of you, unsure after trying alot of boots.....but i listened to a friend of mine and spent the coin and went with the kenetreks and am very glad i did

So far after a few more boots I tried on I'm leaning towards the Kenetreks. I just wish someone in AZ stocked them so I could try them on again with my hunting socks on.

 

might just need to take the plunge and order them and return if not fitting. At least then I could take them in some stores and try against the others.

 

I might need to jet up to REI and try some others on but that won't happen till a few months and I'd prefer to have them sooner than later to get broken in for scouting or early hunts.

i hear ya i thought sportsmans carried them but was in there the other day to get a pair for my dad for fathers day and i couldnt find them..does anyone know if outdoorsmans carries them?

Kenetrek only lists on their website Bear Mountain in Mesa and Sportsmans Warehouse as AZ dealers, but that is for the gaiters, not boots.

 

The Sportsmans WH in Bozeman MT is listed as a boot dealer. You might see if Sportsmans can transfer a pair in your size to try, if MT has your size.

 

Some places will let you return boots if you only test wear them in your house (not outside).

I was in Bull Basin Archery here in Flagstaff. They stock Kenetrek boots, and have the Hardscrabble Hikers, Mountain Boots, Pac boots and gaiters.

The display pair of Kenetrek Hardscrabbles was a size 9- just my size. But no, I did not test fit them. I have a pair of Lowa Tibets, so not needing boots at the moment. If I did, these would be a strong consideration. They look to be very well made.

 

Was also told that the new Vortex Kaibab 15x56s should be delivered to the store in a few weeks.

Well I did purchase a pair of boots.... I bought them cuz after coupon I gave like a $100 buck for them. I bought the Asolo FSN 95. They were also recomended to me by Wade @ Hardcore and are not a bad boot. They will take some getting use to on my part but are breaking in pretty well... they kinda hot spot me at the top, but I am not used to wearing a low top boot. Seem to be a well made boot that will last... I hope.... but I plan to use these as a partime hunting/ summertime boot. What I really like is that they are as light as most sneekers!

 

 

I however took RR's advice and stopped in at Bull Basin in Flag yesterday to check out the Kenetrek Boots.... Those guys are great, BTW.... they not only sell the boots but also hunt in them... they were very helpfull! I tried on a pair of the Mountain Extreme's and all I can say is WOW!!!!! I will own a pair Soon! They only have a few pairs in stock over there and said they could get them in in 5 days if I wanted them.... BTW.... they are cheaper than online!

 

As a side note.... you all know that I am a MATHEWS guy... ... but while in the shop yesterday I shot a new Hoyt that is Awesome! But not to fret.... I also shot the new Monster from Mathews.....OMG!!!! Can you say SICK???? It is the wildest lookin' fastest shooting Mathews I have ever shot!!! Might have to own me one of those, too!!! Although... that Hoyt (I am sad too admit) is one to consider.

I was in the same boat as cmc.. I tried a pair of kennetreks on when I was at the Dallas Safari Club show in Jan. and they were great... I shoulda just bought them right then and there.. But I didn't. Now that I am in the market for a new pair, I'm finding out that the closest place to Tucson is in Flagstaff that carries them, it looks like I'll be ordering them. They are a great fitting boot.

 

No places in PHX that carries them IN STOCK?? I'll be there this weekend to get frontstuffer supplies at Cabelas and I'd like to try a pair on again before forking over the cash if at all possible..Anywhere in the valley?

 

Tried the Meidel boots as well a few years back.. Just didnt fit my feet right.

I ended up getting a pair of Cabela's Denali™ Hunting Boots with Fit IQ by Meindl. Discounts on hand with coupons and gift cards made it worth going that route, that and after I tried them on vs. the Alaskan Meindl boots that are way too stiff I was pretty sold. Ron Green let me try on his used ones to see how they feel after a few years of service and for me I think it'll be a great boot for coues hunting and our various pack in trips throughout the year. I'll stick with my danner 452gtx for archery elk and deer in the woods but for the rocks down south I'll lace these guys up for sure.

 

I've only got two days in them at work and they are great thus far. Hope to field test ASAP and will get out a report.

 

I went with them with the key things I was after were... waterproof, somewhat flexible top, hard vibram like sole. These boots allow for my ankle to move but I won't feel the rocks or water. Just what I wanted. The Alaskan are just way to stiff and I doubt they'd break in enough to be what I wanted. Maybe if I dall sheep hunted every year I'd get them but the Denali fit the bill for me.
