geologger Report post Posted Tuesday at 10:58 PM $25 - $35/doz in the QC/STV area. Ironically, the $25 ones are the best of the people I've tried on the street corners.
dutchmanazA1 Report post Posted Tuesday at 11:16 PM dang! They're that much these days? Heck I used to buy them from a couple up in Heber for $15 a dozen, but that's been 6 years ago or so. Had no idea they went up that much. But they're a ton of work to make, and I do love me some good ones. Looks like I'll have to beat the streets.
HuntHarder Report post Posted Tuesday at 11:26 PM Biden's America has even hit tamales. We just bought some from a co-workers mother. $25 a dozen. Absolutely delicious tho. I prefer to steam them to warm them up, then top with enchilada sauce and mexican queso shredded cheese blend. 1

Lucafu1 Report post Posted Wednesday at 12:28 AM Luckily my wife and mom makes them. But if you want some decent ones the carneceria in Mammoth are/were good. Also the carneceria in Tucson on Valencia and Houghton (Mr. Toro) are pretty good. Sorry I know this thread is for Phoenix.
Sky Island junkie Report post Posted Wednesday at 12:46 AM People usually bitch about the cost of tamales until they make em themselves!
PRDATR Report post Posted Wednesday at 01:07 AM 13 minutes ago, Sky Island junkie said: People usually bitch about the cost of tamales until they make em themselves! They are a LOT of work. People bitch because every jewish mamasita wants to retire selling them. Jewish as in Passover, because they just passover the meat and all you end up with is a mouth full of grainy cornmush, a little bit of red chili and a tablespoon of meat. I've bought dozens over the last 50 years I've lived here and had passable ones from maybe three times.
Boarman03 Report post Posted Wednesday at 01:20 AM Warning Reminder. I am not a heath code compliance person but, if they don't have a valid health license and card, be very careful as a friend if mine living in Rocky Point said that Cholera and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever are currently on the rise, as are TB and a few others. We can joke about it and laugh but it isn't funny if you actually do contract an illness. I don't like most regulation but having lived in a foreign country years back, I appreciate knowing that the vendor is most likely not ill. But, some of the best food can come from an independent cook on a street corner. Best wishes always and a safe holiday season to all.
NOTAGS Report post Posted Wednesday at 01:22 AM I’ve got a coworker who’s born in Mexico who always brings me some that have ruined me… they are always the bomb! She doesn’t make them, but has numerous friends that do. I’ve found that the Instapot is the ONLY way to go to reheat, 5 minutes and perfect! Each year is a treat ….
Chef Report post Posted Wednesday at 01:23 AM I haven’t had good tamales for about 8 years now. Skimp and dry for most. Tamale hustlers want to make margin, so they skimp on filling. Especially with current grocery prices. I do love me some light masa tamales made with lard and no olive pits.
