northAZarcher Report post Posted December 2 Looking to upgrade my Vortex HS LR rifle scope and been looking at the Nightforce and Leupolds. Anybody had them and had any problems? Warranty seems to be great with Leupolds but don't know much about Nightforce. I have been looking at the Illuminated reticle so want to make sure it's covered if anything happens. And what glass do you think is better? Thanks
HuntHarder Report post Posted December 2 Higher end Leupold glass looks better to me, but Nightforce glass isn't trash. My NX8 has what can be called a "finicky" eye box at max power. If you are looking for a repeatable scope that holds zero, I would go Nightforce.

I've looked at them in the store but that doesn't do any good. Always good to have people that have used them in hunting scenarios give feedback! Thanks! SO I HUNT Report post Posted December 2 I have Mark 5 love the eye box and track perfect, but I hate NX8 eye and sold it.
dsotm Report post Posted December 2 Leupold lives off of its reputation from decades ago, they don’t tend to hold zero or dial well
catclaw Report post Posted December 3 I have several of the Razor LHTs. Better than my VX5 by a large margin. The NX8 had terrible eyebox. The ATAC-R scopes are great but $3600 and 3 pounds. Some of the VX6 Leupolds are pretty nice. The one my buddy had on his Alterra tracks pretty good. Limited testing but lots of one shot kills out to 700
Mattman215 Report post Posted December 3 I run all mark 5hd. I don’t love the eye box in nx8 but both should track nearly perfect and both have great glass.

L Cazador Report post Posted December 3 In all fairness when a scope goes from a 3 times to an 8 times in power magnification you will lose some clarity and parallax alignment ease. In my opinion a 5 times power increase is about the maximum you can do without losing some flexibility. Manufacturers are trying to give you a lower power at the low end with a higher power at the high end with an 8 times scope like the NX8. So yeah a Mark 5HD, a 5 times power increase scope may be brighter and have a bigger eye box. Everything looks better in bright sunlight but the true test is at dawn or dusk. My choice is Nightforce whether it's 100 yd competition,1K competition or hunting. And repair and return has been great although I have returned only one 12X42 competition scope that has been on a number of 1K guns. I bought that scope in 1990!

Zero issues with the Razor LHTs? No issues. One sits on a 340 Wby that is 8#. The 3-15s are great. The one 4.5-22 I have is not my favorite simply because it only has like 6 mils in one revolution . I did make a 1050 yard shot with it but I hate turning past one revolution.
