The boys need to learn to swing a rope and ride a horse before they can rope from one. Everybody is different but my father would not let rope from a horse until I could beat him on the ground. My recommendation would be to buy each kid a rope, a steer dummy and practice. If you do this, I could at least teach them how to swing a rope and catch a dummy consistently. Sorry, sold the horses many years ago. Good Luck I would like to tag along on that prospecting deal. Something I have always wanted to learn. Agreed it would be a tall order to get them to be able to rope a calf off a horse. I was going to recommend the dummy too. Plus not all horses are roping horses and most roping horses are a little crazy and can be a lot to handle on their own. Great idea and hopefully you can get them lined out somewhere. Just need dry ground, set up a dry washer. I'll trade you labor for knowledge and 1/3 of the gold. Anyone is welcome. 1
