Young Man Training- Want to rope a calf

My father was a horse trainer, and I grew up around horses and cattle.  I showed horses and team roped when I was younger.  The boys need to learn to swing a rope and ride a horse before they can rope from one. Everybody is different but my father would not let rope from a horse until I could beat him on the ground.  My recommendation would be to buy each kid a rope, a steer dummy and practice.  If you do this, I could at least teach them how to swing a rope and catch a dummy consistently.  Sorry, sold the horses many years ago. Good Luck

I would like to tag along on that prospecting deal.  Something I have always wanted to learn.

Agreed it would be a tall order to get them to be able to rope a calf off a horse. I was going to recommend the dummy too.  Plus not all horses are roping horses and most roping horses are a little crazy and can be a lot to handle on their own.

Great idea and hopefully you can get them lined out somewhere.

This sounds interesting. How do you envision an activity like this going?

I have a spot a few miles north of Morristown.  Just need dry ground,  set up a dry washer.

I'll trade you labor for knowledge and 1/3 of the gold.  Anyone is welcome.

Well, thats super cool to get kids back into things like this...

I dont know of any, but if you're not to worried about asking in person... I know there's a xouple of places out in coolidge that you could stop by and knock on the door to see if they would be willing to set something up. I know some of the arenas have team roping and such on the weekends. (non competition, just like minded people hanging out).

on the north end of coolidge

between coolidge and I-10 (highway 87 and Houser)

Top Hand tack shop +15055159048 (there's always guy out there cutting cows and roping when i go out to 37a for Javelina)

So my buddy went to our top secret squirrel location this morning,  he was home by noon.

I'm ill at the moment or we would have got twice as much.
