Chef Report post Posted February 25, 2009 This is my Marlin 444P chambered for the .444 Marlin. I'm getting her ready for Africa next year. I'll be taking a Kudu and a Giraffe with her. I'll be shooting CorBon 305 grainers. Had a newer peep sight and front done up. The front has a fire-glo insert. (That's a quick-tatch weaver mount on the scope for easy removal to use the iron sights) They also re-crowned the barrel and slicked up the loading gate and ejection port. I also had the for end stock slimmed down, points real nice. Just wanted to share as I know there are some lever guys on the forum.

More D Report post Posted February 26, 2009 Hey Chef, who did the work for you? I have an older Marlin in 44mag that I want some work done. I love the way your 444 looks, very short and handy!!
GameHauler Report post Posted February 26, 2009 I have never been a lever gun guy But I must say that it is the FINEST LEVER I HAVE LAID MY EYES ON. Sweet and best of luck to you on your hunt.
Chef Report post Posted February 26, 2009 Thanks so much for the kind comments. More D, I had Grizzly Custom Guns out of Montana do the work. PM me if you would like more info and/or before you decide on what you want. I could give you some tips. I have three Marlins chambered in .44 mag and love them. High capacity and handy. That caliber is a thumper out of the carbines. 240 grains and you have dead pigs, deer, etc. at close range.
KGAINES Report post Posted February 26, 2009 How do the cor-bons feel when you shoot them, I haven't fired them through my guide gun, but some of the reloads I shoot pop my shoulder a lot more than I would have thought. My 45-70's are both Marlins, but the .44 and the .357's are winchesters, all of them are fun guns to shoot though. Again that gun you have is awesome. Chef Report post Posted February 26, 2009 Keith, The CorBon's "push" into me a bit more than the 265 grain Hornady LR ammo. Still bearable as my rifle is ported and I have a thick Pachmayr decelerator pad installed. Although no comparison to a 460 grain hardcast out of the .45-70 cowboy! That thing kills from both ends! Definitely a blast to shoot and I'm suprised at how balanced and easy to point that long octagon barrel is. Have you tried Buffalo Bore ammo out of yours? Like the 500 grainers?!! I know Cabela's carries it albeit a bit pricey.
KGAINES Report post Posted February 26, 2009 I haven't tried the 500 grainer yet, I have thought about just buying some of the 500 gr. Hornady's and doing some reloads to try out, my guide gun is ported but I think it's the weight that causes it to kick like a mule with some of the reloads. The Buffalo Bore stuff is expensive, but worth it if you don't reload.

coueschaser3 Report post Posted February 26, 2009 hector, i didnt get a chance to pick up your call the other day, been pretty sick. It looks like Tim did a great job on that lever gun for ya. Im sure you will love it, took my dad out with his the other day and got him a pig. 150yrd shot with those open sites and that 45 70 sure did its job + quite a bit extra. Sweet sweet guns! i think im gonna have him build me one up in 44 mag. If anyone has any questions on Grizzly custom, Tim who builds the guns is a hunting buddy of mine and have known him for a long time. He will also be at NRA show. Builds great quality levers and bolts including sweet scout rifles.
