JSR Report post Posted October 4 I've seen more turkeys in the last 2 years than I have in the previous 10 years combined. They seem to be everywhere.
Crazymonkey Report post Posted October 4 So the plan for the night is to pull my buddies blind out and sit my blind till dark as it's where the guys came across the mtn lion during the archery elk hunt.
nmurray10 Report post Posted October 4 What call are you using? New to turkey as a whole, but heard that the best luck you’ll have in the fall is using a crow call to locate them. Any truth to that?

I used a cheap raspy hen box call and the call Brian ( IA born 's ) son made he does make a good pot call.
Crazymonkey Report post Posted October 5 So we hopped back in my blind for the night hoping to see the mtn lion . No luck ! Did have more turkey come in right where they should have earlier for me . We had birds at 10 to 20 yds . It was some great practice trying to mimic there sounds .They hung around for awhile. Then we had a few cow elk and a small 4x4 come in. I was finally able to get yardage on my shot and was surprised it was over 65 yds . I'm shooting a sx3 12 gage and heavy shot bismuth mixed loads there on the hot side 1450 fps.
Crazymonkey Report post Posted October 7 Being done hunting and getting my sxs back up and running thanks to Amazon and my hunting buddies wife who was due to make the trip up Friday after work . I ran into another group of hunters looking for birds for a young hunter. So I told Rocky and his grandson about my spot and how and when the birds were coming in . Right at 5pm everyday. Then went to return my buddies sxs to him . Later that day my buddy and i were shooting guns me my 300blk and 280ai and him some big boomer guns a ruger#1 in 416 rigby and a 375 ultra mag . Just about a hour before dark and down the trail the guys come and they had a bird for the grandson . He thanked me over and over again . They couldn't believe that the birds came in just like I said they would . That's definitely the best part of the trip for me . I did get to see antelope just past camp and take my wife to a tank she hadn't seen . Just about a hundred yds before the tank I stopped and glassed and caught movement . A herd of deer was on there way into water and we just sat and watched and got pictures.
Jalt Report post Posted October 7 Awesome weekend. Went up to 6B on Thursday to set up camp and recheck areas from prior weekend. Turkeys were running a little earlier than week before but still came into tanks at 5:15. Opening was head out before dawn and walk the ridges surrounding tanks and locate their roost. By mid morning had three opportunities on over 30 birds including being busted by 4 Jake’s. Evening all hens so let them pass in hoping for a Tom. Second day same and by 10 had a flock of 30 to 40 pass me by at 70 yards I watched them feed at 100 yards for an hour, calling softly only to have them respond and return to my location. I was able to set up on taking a 25 yard shot on hen and couldn’t be happier. First turkey. Box checked and looking forward to another hunt.
