Turkey Shotgun

Recommended Posts

I drew a unit 27 turkey tag and I know absolutly nothing about turkey kunting.....LOL  Soooo I need to buy a Turkey gun. Anyone have any suggestions on a decent gun....not looking to spend a lot seein' as how i wont get to much use out of it, or does anyone have a shotgun that they are wanting to sell? Id rather give the $$ to someone on here than one of the big chain stores.

DONT BE LIKE ME AND BUY A $1500 GUN IF YOUR ONLY GONNA USE IT A FEW TIMES. I WENT CRAZY NOW MY TURKEY GUN IS MY ARIZONA DUCK GUN. GETS USED 2X A YEAR. I HUNT TURKEYS WITH BOW ONLY. GO BUY A WALMART GUN ABOUT 3 BILLS 3 AND 3 1/2 SHELLS CHARLES DAILY DAISY WHATEVER. CAMO AND ALL WILL PROBABLY KICK THE CRAP OUT OF YOU BUT WILL GET JOB DONE!!!

AT LEAST THATS MY OPINION.

Hey I have that same tag if its the late hunt! Turkey huntin is so much fun!!! I think I enjoy turkey huntin almost more than anything!

Get something that is camo if you can afford it, extra full turkey choke!!! I have a Benelli Super Nova. Nice gun but when I shoot the 3 1/2 shells, the ejector comes back after I shoot. 3 more of my friends have the same problem with the same gun, but its only with the 3 1/2 shells. I'm sure they'll fix it if I send it in, just been to busy.

But if anything try to get something that can shoot the 3 1/2" shells, more shot more powder. If you can't though the 3" will do ok also.

Just my 2 cents!!!

funny goodoleboys should say that. i have BENELLI SUPER BLACK EAGLE and was promised it would shoot every shell. i quickly found out on a mixed bag hunt that regular bird shot, low brass does not have enough energy to cycle chamber. has to atleast be upland high brass. i do agree turkey hunting is gr8 and sometimes really frustrating.

Bass Pro has a stoeger ( was told they are made by benelli) 12 ga pump in camo that shoots 3" and comes with a turkey choke and a 24" barrel for $299. Would that be a decent turkey gun?

My son and I just use his 870 20 gauge with a turkey choke, and shoot high brass #6 out to 30 yards. (it's a lot lighter than carrying a big 12 loaded with 3 1/2" magnum loads all day). The gun has a matte finish, so we don't worry about camo. We use the same gun for dove, quail, & grouse (when we can't find a rock or stick to hit them with).
