codyhuntsaz Report post Posted February 20, 2009 I drew a unit 27 turkey tag and I know absolutly nothing about turkey kunting.....LOL Soooo I need to buy a Turkey gun. Anyone have any suggestions on a decent gun....not looking to spend a lot seein' as how i wont get to much use out of it, or does anyone have a shotgun that they are wanting to sell? Id rather give the $$ to someone on here than one of the big chain stores. Cody
hoghntr Report post Posted February 20, 2009 DONT BE LIKE ME AND BUY A $1500 GUN IF YOUR ONLY GONNA USE IT A FEW TIMES. I WENT CRAZY NOW MY TURKEY GUN IS MY ARIZONA DUCK GUN. GETS USED 2X A YEAR. I HUNT TURKEYS WITH BOW ONLY. GO BUY A WALMART GUN ABOUT 3 BILLS 3 AND 3 1/2 SHELLS CHARLES DAILY DAISY WHATEVER. CAMO AND ALL WILL PROBABLY KICK THE CRAP OUT OF YOU BUT WILL GET JOB DONE!!! AT LEAST THATS MY OPINION.
Couzer Report post Posted February 20, 2009 Hey I have that same tag if its the late hunt! Turkey huntin is so much fun!!! I think I enjoy turkey huntin almost more than anything! Get something that is camo if you can afford it, extra full turkey choke!!! I have a Benelli Super Nova. Nice gun but when I shoot the 3 1/2 shells, the ejector comes back after I shoot. 3 more of my friends have the same problem with the same gun, but its only with the 3 1/2 shells. I'm sure they'll fix it if I send it in, just been to busy. But if anything try to get something that can shoot the 3 1/2" shells, more shot more powder. If you can't though the 3" will do ok also. Just my 2 cents!!!
hoghntr Report post Posted February 20, 2009 funny goodoleboys should say that. i have BENELLI SUPER BLACK EAGLE and was promised it would shoot every shell. i quickly found out on a mixed bag hunt that regular bird shot, low brass does not have enough energy to cycle chamber. has to atleast be upland high brass. i do agree turkey hunting is gr8 and sometimes really frustrating. My Rights As An American Report post Posted February 20, 2009 I have an older remington 870 that I can sell you if you want. It is not camo, but it is cheaper than a brand new gun! Let me know.
codyhuntsaz Report post Posted February 20, 2009 hey good, ya its the hunt that goes for a week in april, then a week in may. I have never hunted turkeys before, so any tips or info would be appreciated. My girlfriend also has the same tag.
codyhuntsaz Report post Posted February 20, 2009 Bass Pro has a stoeger ( was told they are made by benelli) 12 ga pump in camo that shoots 3" and comes with a turkey choke and a 24" barrel for $299. Would that be a decent turkey gun?
willhunt4coues Report post Posted February 20, 2009 Make it fun and take your bow.
WFGinNM Report post Posted February 20, 2009 My son and I just use his 870 20 gauge with a turkey choke, and shoot high brass #6 out to 30 yards. (it's a lot lighter than carrying a big 12 loaded with 3 1/2" magnum loads all day). The gun has a matte finish, so we don't worry about camo. We use the same gun for dove, quail, & grouse (when we can't find a rock or stick to hit them with). --Bill
