recent Covert 1 pics

Recommended Posts

Pulled the card on a Covert 1 cam that's been out for few weeks.

I set it up in an area that was greening up so I could catch the handful of turkeys and javelina in the area. I have been curious how many turkeys are in this area because it's a low elevation area that isn't well connected to other turkey areas. I managed to get one hen turkey and some javies, but also got several other critters.

One thing I learned with this set is that I had it too close to the trail where some of the animals walk by the cam. If they are walking quickly, then the cam just barely catches them because the area of coverage is very small. I had hoped to catch things feeding in the green up under a mesquite tree and hadn't thought much about how little of the trail was covered by the cam. So I moved the cam so it would shoot along the trail and hopefully get more of the animals.

First a few quizzes about the pics:

How many javies (yes Bill Q, I am typing that just to raise your ire  ) do you see in this pic?

And what critter do you see in this pic?

Looks like a lion in the second pic. I can't believe you actually got pics of those Turkey. ;) Those are great. ;)

Yes, I was pleased to get the turkey, but I thought they would feed in front of the cam on the green stuff and not just cruise right on by. So I was kinda bummed to get the headless turkey pic, rather than little flock under the tree. I should have angled the cam a little more to the left to get the larger feeding area.

That's my first lion pic!! I was excited about that, although it's not a great pic. And nice to get another bobcat.

Thanks for sharing Amanda. The more I see pics from the covert the more I want one. Looks like you got a good place to capture some great pictures once you get the cam repositioned. Try backing it up a little if that's possible. Any word on when covert is coming out with their new economic version? :) Wow, a lion and bobcat has got to be exciting. I hope someday to just get one or the other.

Covert will be coming out with a cheaper model but it won't have the bells and whistles of the current covert cams. But still might be a great cam for lots of folks. DLC thinks perhaps the beginning of April they will be available.

I wasn't expecting the bobcat and lion, but of course was very happy to get them! There is a wash that has water in it not far from where I have the cam and I figured the lions and such would travel that wash and not use that little spot. But I guess they go where the game goes and obviously the piggies, rabbits and turkey use that other area.

Nice pics for sure- enjoyed all of them! This whole thing is a serious addiction! The c batteries on the wildviews are breaking my bank :) - So I'm switching to 12v batteries soon!

Battery life is a definite plus on these Covert mini cams. They take AA's and last for several months. You can also set it up with a solar panel for even longer use if you wanted to.

nice pics, I think that the 5th pic -the one that asks what it is, I would have to say that is the backside of an Aberts Squirrel. I think he was mooning the camera <---------- BAH HA HA HA HA HA HA

hehehehe....good guess...it was actually the backside of a rock squirrel. The tails are a little different from an abert's, plus it's too low an elevation for the abert's to be in there.

Nice job on the pigs in the first photo. I thought it was kind of a neat pic. I hope to get some better lion pics.
