45-70 loading and trimming

Recommended Posts

Anyone have a good powder they recommend? New to the 45-70 and just seeing what everyone else is using.

I order 150 pieces of star line brass that I put away over 8 months ago. Had some issues on the length, and figured out that they shipped 45-90 instead of 45-70. I'm just glad I had a RCBS Protrimmer.

Loading them is like the last step, none were loaded. When I put one through my sizing die I knew something was up lol.

Well nothing but IMR 3031 was in stock so I ended up using it. Question is, how do I know if I have a good enough crimp? Lever gun using RCBS dies doing a roll crimp.

Mark two or three with a sharpie, Put them in the tube or magazine and fire a handful of rounds with them in there. Run them in and out of the chamber A few times Fairly hard. Measure coal To see if the bullets moved.

I like the way you think, I'll be at the range this weekend. I'll bring the Calipers

@ Prdatr, I think I rolled it right in there. Anymore causes case deformation
