Couzer Report post Posted September 14 Anyone have a good powder they recommend? New to the 45-70 and just seeing what everyone else is using. I order 150 pieces of star line brass that I put away over 8 months ago. Had some issues on the length, and figured out that they shipped 45-90 instead of 45-70. I'm just glad I had a RCBS Protrimmer. 1
PRDATR Report post Posted September 14 Didn't you measure it before loading it for the first time?
Couzer Report post Posted September 14 Loading them is like the last step, none were loaded. When I put one through my sizing die I knew something was up lol.

Couzer Report post Posted September 15 Well nothing but IMR 3031 was in stock so I ended up using it. Question is, how do I know if I have a good enough crimp? Lever gun using RCBS dies doing a roll crimp.
PRDATR Report post Posted September 15 I would increase the crimp on them and load the bullet a few thousands deeper.
Azdiy Report post Posted September 17 Mark two or three with a sharpie, Put them in the tube or magazine and fire a handful of rounds with them in there. Run them in and out of the chamber A few times Fairly hard. Measure coal To see if the bullets moved.

I'll bring the Calipers
Couzer Report post Posted September 18 @ Prdatr, I think I rolled it right in there. Anymore causes case deformation
