Fishing SW NM around silver city

Recommended Posts

Anyone been to the lakes or Gila River recently? Planning a week long trip later this month for different scenery. It’s been several years since I’ve been in that area so just looking for new/local input. Is Robert’s and bill Evan’s still good for bass? Fly pole on the river still ok for trout? Any areas I’m missing? Might drive to elephant butte for a morning but it’s kinda far. Thanks in advance.

Growing up in southern NM, we always just drove right past Roberts and Bill Evans lake to get to the White Mountains, my dad wasn't a bass fisherman and preferred the trout streams and lakes the white mountains provided.

I kinda regret not trying those lakes out but hey, you go fishin where your dad takes you fishin................following this thread for info........good luck!!!

Is Elephant Butte up on water level? Last I heard it was in a world of hurt!

Same, we were always at the lakes around show low or alpine or black river. Occasionally we’d go around silver city but it’s been years. Just wanted a change from the norm. If it suck then I’ll be back in the crowds next trip.
