New Rules starting 8-10-24

Recommended Posts

I don't like this one. Looks like they want to increase the limited entry tags and give the commission "Greater" flexibility for limited entry tags.

R12-4-609. Commission Orders: Add limited-entry permit-tags to the list of exemptions provided
under subsection (B) to make the rule more effective and provide the Commission with greater
flexibility in offering these limited-entry opportunities.

Also curious what they plan to change with the bison hunts.

6.) R12-4-306. Bison Hunt Requirements:
✓ Reflect current bison hunt procedures to ensure bison hunts meet Fair Chase protocols and
management objectives.

I get wanting to ban pistol brace AR and AK from HAM hunts. But if that is an issue, why aren't $5000 muzzle loaders shooting smokeless powder and being accurate to 500 yards?

No more Radios???? Have not heard of this even being considered until this moment, and its apparently already approved? That really stinks if so. Loved me some family/friend hunting radio chatter in the back woods when no cell service. Or is this like a listening magnification thing they are trying to ban?

"Prohibit the use of listening technology for the purpose of taking or assisting with the take of terrestrial wildlife."

To get radios from "listening technology" seems a pretty big stretch. But the commission has a way of doing whatever the heck they want, so who knows.

Exactly. People like to read too hard into things. I guess you could make the argument that hearing aids are listening technology? I am the exact opposite, it needs to be clear and undeniable. If it isnt then they can pound sand :)

No doubt, The only place I really heard it has done much is on the strip and unit 9.  Could you imagine hunting without radios tho? 🤯

I did not construe "listening technology" to mean communication, which is what cell phones and 2 way radios provide and facilitate.

I think and hope they mean advanced hearing aids, etc.

That being said, as someone who may not have the closed the deal on a big game animal, or two or three, without someone 1,000 yards back on the glasses and radio saying, "No, moron, he is behind the same tree he was when you left, not the tree you are looking at now..." I am not sure my current use is always consistent with the true sense of fair chase. Or, at least, they have made me lazy in some situations by relying too heavily on someone else over the radio to "walk me in." However, I will use them until its explicit that they are banned. AK doesn't allow them.

The entire board needs to be dismissed.

I listen to podcasts on my phone, therefore it could by construed as a listening device. 🤷🏻‍♂️

What about electronic hearing protection? Amplifies sounds until the shot is fired.
