Lees Ferry update

Yes, until a truck, bus load of kids get on the lake. Going Wednesday, we need to hook up some day. No pun intended. I've also noticed none of the boats rented are registered..

I just go early and get off the lake around 11 when they are out in full force. It's not hard to avoid them for a competent person when you are going 2mph.

Even for a Wannabe Pirate.

You get on the lake or you get on the river?

This is too bad.  I don’t know why it seems like the good old days are gone.  Hopefully the fishery makes a recovery.  I was thinking about going up there, too.  Maybe not now.

I fished the Ferry May 23 and 24. Very disappointing. This has got to be the worst fishing in thirty years. The only fish I caught were with streamers in the tail outs. I saw no fish in the shallow riffles. I tried dry droppers and nymphing, zero fish this way.

I spoke to three other parties and they had the same experience.

Game and Fish interviewed me at the dock. I told them I caught six fish on Saturday. He said I did better than all the other respondents. Sad.

Just got back  from a day and a half of fishing Lees. Still disappointingly slow.  I landed 12, lost about another 6 hook ups that spit the hook, and probably another dozen strikes that didn’t hook. My buddy was about the same. Caught and released the biggest brown I’ve ever  caught there, a big female that would go 5-6  honest lbs. and before the shite starts, my buddy who was supposedly videoing  forgot to hit the start button on his phone… so no, I don’t have a pic…54-57 degree waters, and the kayakers are still like water pollution.  The cicadas were buzzing pretty good yesterday,  so that fun should be starting up

Will the rain wash the kayakers away?

We can only hope…,

It gets scary when the thunderstorms roll into the canyon. There can be two foot rollers with white caps. The kayakers just hunker down and wait it out or they get rescued by the ferry service. The paddle boarders are even more at risk, they don't seem to have rain gear and suffer hypothermia with the rain and wind.
