Mauser 98 bolt will not close. Any ideas?

Recommended Posts

Insomnia has me doing weird things sometimes.   I decided to assemble my own gun in my garage (264 win mag).   Got everything put together and am testing to see if it will chamber and I cannot get the cartridge to feed completely.   Anyone might know why?

It should look like this. Sometimes the shroud gets turned a little and the firing pin spring pushes the cocking piece into that little v kinda shape in the back of the bolt housing

A lot of barrels you buy are short chambered. You have to ream the chamber deeper. Where did you get the barrel?

Anything stuck in the chamber? I shot my rifle, took it home and cleaned it, next time I went to shoot it, I couldn't get a round into the chamber, but a fired case would chamber. I took it over to Accuracy Speaks, Marty (red haired guy, who passed) sprayed some WD-40 down the barrel and then blew it out. It was the little o-ring off my bore guide that broke off and latched onto the chamber. That was a while ago. I still check for an o-ring when I take the bore guide out of a rifle.

Gun Smith from back east.  The round slides in when I do it by hand.

Was the barrel cut for that claw extractor?
