Big or Bust Report post Posted June 19 I am a hunting dude. I read all you guys exploits off San Diego and other areas chartering boats for offshore stuff. Bro is from Texas, we love to fish. I want to gift him an experience. This is a naive post, I get it. Any guidance on booking an "experience" off shore fishing on the west coast? We camped on the Black River for a week 2 years ago trout fishing. Still chat about it. Any and all feedback welcome including other ideas... Thanks Guys.. Ed67 Report post Posted June 19 If willing to fly to Mexico, consider Los Barriles. Fly to Cabo then hire a shuttle to drive about 60 miles north and charter a boat. Cheap flights, lodging, food and fishing is great. There are several reasonably priced hotels down there

Can you break this 3k$ trip down? Which charter in Cabo. Looks like atleast 1300 for airfare. If you could truly get in at 3k for 2 people, why in the heck does anyone go to Cali? Frontier round trip non stop is 290, American is $470 round trip non stop hotel $100-170 a night Full day panga 250 a day full day; cruiser 450 probably. that’s about what, $3100 for 4 or 5 nights. Forgot you got about a $200 cab ride also Cuz they think they’re gonna get killed by the cartel i guess?
Ed67 Report post Posted June 19 We stayed at the Playa Del Sol and it was cheap maybe 80 a night. Very basic rooms on the beach, decent pool, outdoor bar, decent little restaurant and they will make you a sack lunch for the boat for a few bucks. I need to get back there. We went down in July about 5 years ago and caught a bunch of Tuna and one billfish on a super panga. Sharks ate a few of our tuna on the way up.

You fly down with a a cooler, put your clothes inside of it in a duffle bag (I prefer carry on size). get your hotel to freeze your fish. Fly back with a cooler full of frozen fish checked, and your clothes in the carry on. the other option depending on how much you have is you can fly with your carry on full of frozen fish. third and last one I would recommend is insulated carboard box you can get from the fish processors, can fly it back like a cooler. The airport people don’t like those as much, might not accept
Ed67 Report post Posted June 20 I bought one of those shoulder carry bag style soft insulated coolers. My son brought one as well. The outfit I went with took the tuna to the local processor where they cut, vacuum packed and froze the tuna. We packed in our coolers and carried them in. Stayed frozen all the way. Ed67 Report post Posted June 20 My son in law took a hard side cooler down and checked it with his gear along with some duct tape. On the way back he wrapped his cooler, checked it and carried on the rest of his clothing. It’s really not too difficult
trphyhntr Report post Posted June 20 Meanwhile in California you got a $400 fish processing bill
PRDATR Report post Posted June 20 1 hour ago, CatfishKev said: What about bringing the fish back? Is that a whole other level of pita or no? My son and I flew into and out of Loreto and used a soft sided Cooler from AO. I think they were 48qt. We each had a little over 45 pounds in ours and they went in as checked bags. The fish was vacum packed but not frozen and it kept them cold for 10 hours. The people weighed and checked each bag at the airport and it was no big deal. https://aocoolers.com/products/canvas-cooler-48-pack
HyNoon Report post Posted June 20 Two of the times I went to California. We drove and had the deck hands filet them, and we just drove back with them in the cooler we brought. 5 of us split the gas. One year we rented two 18 passenger vans. Those trips were pretty cheap.
