Coconino National Forest - Stage 2 Fire Restrictions

Coconino Nat Forest will be entering Stage 2 Fire Restrictions this Friday June 21.  Forest roads around the Peaks, south of Kachina Village and south of Walnut Canyon will be closed.

Happens in the Phoenix area and the east valley too almost every year when it is dry before the monsoons gear up. Usually starts with fire restrictions and as it get drier they implement no target shooting and it can eventually lead to them closing off roads around Sugar Loaf and to Four Peaks.

We have already had seven fires with ones happening before Memorial Day.

Very annoying. Those are some of the main areas I enjoy hiking and exploring. They are typically closed in the winter for 4-5 months for snow and now they are going to close them for most of the summer when the fire danger is high. When is the public allowed to use public land?

Looks like the rains will be kicking off this weekend.  Hopefully they stick around and we can escape without major fires this year🙏
