what's everbody think about all this rain? my little pasture is so wet i had to buy a lifejacket for my horse. his feet are so soft from bein' in the wet that they're like trimmin' a bar o' soap. my neighbors ducks like it. they have a half acre pond to swim in. i've had right at 10" of rain at my house since Christmas. got 3 1/2" since last thursday evening. had to pump down the cement pond so's it wouldn't run over. the filleree and other good plants are thicker than they've been in years, out in the wild. oughta be a red letter year for poppies and all the other wild flowers. dang, if we can get a little rain this summer, it oughta be a heck of a quail season for a change and antlers should really be something next year. maybe a few records will be busted with all them fat horns that the deer and elk will have. the lakes are fillin' up and the fishin' oughta be great. the little queen creek wash by my house is runnin' a heck of a stream. putted on over to the gila by florence yesterday and it has a big buncha water in it too. that's all just san pedro and aravaipa water too, coolidge dam is catchin' everything up above that. roosevelt should pass the old highwater mark today. they still say it's only like 55% full, because they raised the dam way up, but by this afternoon it oughta have more water than it's ever held in history. it's probly gonna mess up pig season some, but the way i see it, it even lessens the chances o' gittin' one and that's a good thing. they'll be so fulla green that it'll be a real barf-o-rama if you hafta gut one. pray fer rain boys, it ain't never rained too much here. yeeeeehaaaaaa, Arizona is green fer a change. i've always been a little webfooted, so it don't bother me none. Lark.

I got rained out on my HAM hunt this week end. <_< I liked it until I saw the Gila River  that was completly crazy, breaking trees loose, and swiftly putting them down river fast! I ranged the other side and it was 50 yards across, normally 30-40, this is the crossing near the ghost town of Cocrin (sp?). To say the least it was real wet, and I didn't get a whole lot of hunting done. I did hike back to my little spring to refill a canteen, but it was over run with run off that I didn't dare drink from it.

The only thing that scares me is what happens to all that green in, oh say, four months. If that rain just plain stops the wild fires will rule the country side.

*EDIT*

And when the heck did the G&F get those unmarked short bed chevy's, and dodges with campers? I thought I was getting jumped at one point, a white dodge pulls up, unmarked, and two guys jump out  They showed their ID, and took my info. Scared me for a while after that. But it's a good thing IMHO, maybe it will keep those road hunters out of there.

As an AZ native, (yes there are a few of us) I agree that the rain is going to be great for the hunting and everything in general. The forecast is a wet (el Nino) year. and that may help contain wildfires.

Here in AZ we can never have enough rain!

Definitly will be p;utting in for Elk and Deer this year to hopefully cash in on the antler growth aspect of the weather. Building up my colsd, wet gear also as this could be the one year in 20 that you need it.!

I am a native also and have slowly watched all of the lakes around Flagstaff going dry. I remember when Mormon Lake was a great place to catch pike and catfish. When I was in gradeschool (middle 80's) we used to sit on the dam between upper and lower Lake Mary and shoot ducks and geese like crazy. The good news is that upper lake is full and lower is almost full. The lakes around Williams are also full. I just hope that the only natural two lakes in AZ (Mormon and Stoneman) fill back up again. I hope it keeps raining right up until around the middle of March and then stops. I have a bear hunt to attend. :) The horns are gonna be big this year. David.

Alot of the desert game tanks are full now. Hopefully we will continue to get rain through the year and keep everthing green that should make for an awesome fall season. Just need to get out and do my share of yote shooting to help the young ones through the summer. Quail and rabbits should be good next fall also. Let's just hope it will continue. :D :)
