June Report post Posted February 6, 2009 Wondering what to do? My mount has some years on it and I was thinking about re-capeing it. This was my first coues and I had Mr. John Doyle do the taxidermy for me. What a character and good man he was. Your opinion will help with my decision. I really hate to do it because it takes away from the memories i have of the animal and person who brought it back to life. Maybe just some touch-up will do. Thanks. Hope i can post a pic. SilentButDeadly Report post Posted February 6, 2009 If Doyle did it, leave it be, that thing is a piece of art.
firstcoueswas80 Report post Posted February 6, 2009 I second what Tyson said. Not to mention a beast of a buck that thing is!
mattobertin Report post Posted February 6, 2009 What exactly is wrong with it? I would say touch it up. Monster buck by the way what does he score?

Hunting6 Report post Posted February 6, 2009 I don't think I would replace the cape on your deer. By the picture you have here, you can't really see any major damage to it. if all you have is ears splitting, or seams showing. That can be repaired. if it just requires some touch up paint, that is even easier to have done. if the skull cap is loose, again that can be easily repaired. Is the current cape losing major portions of hair ?
June Report post Posted February 6, 2009 Thanks for the advice. Not much hair lost. I just started to notice some falling out while dusting him. Apears minor for now. The real problem is the right ear is starting to seperate some right at the tip. Yeah, I was leaning along those lines of maybe getting by with some minor maintenance. Thanks for the tip on seybrite and the comments.

What a Fantastic first deer!! Congrats!!! May I recomend Mogollon Taxidermy (Payson) or Harlow's Wildlife Studio (Tucson).....
