youngbuck Report post Posted February 4, 2009 I need a new frame pack. I'm looking for something with a seperate frame and pack. I would prefer the pack have a large compartment. I'll mostly be using it for packing stuff out, or long weekend trips. I was looking at the Cabelas Alaskan Guide Model frame pack. I dont need anything fancy w/ a scabard or spotter pocket. I use a my gunslinger or 2200 for almost everything. I remember RR making a post about some in the bargain cave a while back. Anyone have any suggestions. Oh another thing i'm not trying to break the bank on this but would like it to last a while.
jamaro Report post Posted February 4, 2009 I am going to try the new OX from Badlands this year... I had the chance to try one on at ATA and they are super nice... J
seek100plus Report post Posted February 10, 2009 I have been on the same search , Cabelas has really nice one's. I tried something new this year on my pig hunt and it worked great , I took my 2200 and put it on my Cabelas Alaskan Guide Model frame pack, my 2200 last year was a little lite for carrying my pig out , but this year I had my Cabelas Alaskan Guide Model frame pack and my 2200 together as one , sure made my pig pack out nice , plus the pack frame and the 2200 was very light together , very sweet ! cactusjack Report post Posted July 28, 2009 How did you attach the 2200 to your Alaskan Guide frame pack. That is the setup I am considering for my Nov unit 33 hunt.
Red Rabbit Report post Posted July 28, 2009 In addition to the Cabelas frames: Kifaru LongHunter Hauler http://kifaru.net/longhunter_hauler.html Mystery Ranch NICE Frame and Load Sling http://www.mysteryranch.com/packs/54/nice-frame.html http://www.mysteryranch.com/packs/108/load-sling.html Granite Gear Stratus Flatbed http://www.granitegear.com/products/backpa...tusflatbed.html Barney's Carnivor Freighter Frame by Barneys Sport Chalet in Alaska (said to be sturdier than the Cabelas version) http://outdoorsdirectory.com/products/barneys.htm http://www.barneyssports.com/ Kelty Cache Hauler Frame http://www.kelty.com/kelty/products.php?te...rame&id=105 When I was using a Cabelas/Camp Trails frame, I found it too tall and the top of the frame would snag overhanging limbs frequently. It also squeeked. With an external frame, carrying a slinged rifle is more difficult. I would suggest the Kifaru Gun Bearer. I also frees both hands so one does not have to hold the rifle sling constantly. http://kifaru.net/gunbearer_hunt.html
jamaro Report post Posted July 28, 2009 Earlier this year I started doing a ton of research on Frame Packs because I was looking for something for something to review for bowcast... I was going to use the OX but I think they are having issues.. Very few have actually made it to market. Like most Badlands packs it is heavy and load... Those Al metal stays are very "tingy"... I also didn't like the cost.. SUPER Spendy... Anyway... You might want to see what Chris D. is doing with his Outdoorsman pack.... They have a really neat design and a great concept. You can read more about the pack by following this link.... http://web.mac.com/western_hunter/Western_...mans%20Pack.pdf I plan on doing a review of one as soon as I can chase one down.... Red Rabbit Report post Posted July 28, 2009 Jason, That Outdoorsman Pack looks like a nice setup. http://shop.outdoorsmans.com/product.sc;js...p;productId=299 I like that it does not stick way up high above the shoulders to snag stuff. Doug~RR
jamaro Report post Posted July 28, 2009 It also has a little shelf on the bottom that not only helps stabilize the load but it helps keep the pack upright so you can use the little "V" on the top of the frame a shooting rest... AND these guys are a CWT Sponsor... That alone is worth it... J
Red Rabbit Report post Posted July 28, 2009 Outdoorsmans mentions a load/meat carrying system tucked against the frame underneath the pack. Would be nice to see pics of that to see how it works in conjunction with the pack bag. Also, I do not see a lumbar pad on the waist belt. Video clip of the bag http://jayscottoutdoors.blogspot.com/2008/...ck-systems.html
jamaro Report post Posted July 28, 2009 I think you can see part of it from the link I posted.. notice the "L" shape of the frame... J
azshtr Report post Posted July 28, 2009 Bruzer gear has a nice setup. I use the bigger pack and replaced the built in hip belt with the modular fannypack as the hip belt. That gives you a day pack and a main pack. Lots of options. Built tough as nails. http://bruzergear.com/
